Go to Cherokee, just before you actually get to Cherokee on the left there’s some park building and they’re usually standing in the big field beside it

They were first released in Cataloochie (sp?) which is in SMNP on the north end but is a pretty good ride from G'burg. They is where the population took off and started spreading

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I've seen a good many of them in the fields of Cataloochee Valley and in the fields West of Cherokee on the road coming from Gatlinburg. I don't know why Cades cove isn't full of them yet.

Cherokee like fsh said, I was just there and saw a bunch drive newfoundlound gap road past clingmans, sometimes they congregate near the creek close to the bottom. last week we saw them just past the old homestead station. in the bushes. they were also in the residential area in cherekee near the fire station someone planted their front yard with corn. stay away from cades cove there's some jerks out there that will have everyone behind them waiting 3hrs. bumper to bumper while only they get to see the wildlife

The place near Cherokee everyone is talking about is the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. There are a couple of small fields along the rod just before you get there where they’ll often congregate, as well as the big pasture next to the visitor center

Like mentioned previously, if you just want to see them, go to Oconaluftee Visitor Center and they should be out in the fields. If you want to see them without all the traffic around the visitor center, make the trip to Cataloochee. It is well worth the drive to visit the valley.

I’ve seen some in Utah when I was working out there, but that would be VERY cool to see them in the Smokies!!!

Man we went there last year and didn’t see an elk. Tracks everywhere, but I sure was disappointed.
I’ve never seen one in person.

These were taken a couple years ago. The big bull was walking down the road just before the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. The cows were bedded down literally right behind the visitor center, back by the little recreated settlement.

Cades Cove is not worth my time anymore. Well neither is Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

This! I’m in Pigeon Forge now and this will be my last trip up here. I can’t think of one single thing up here that’s worth sitting in the traffic and madness that people would want to see.

Pigeon Forge is a dump. We often stay in Gatlinburg just because it's convenient to a lot of other stuff...but I've never understood the folks that go up there spend any amount of time "in town" (PF or Gatlinburg). We can go up there for a week and spend pretty much all day, every day in the park. The only time we really spend in town is to eat breakfast and then maybe walk around in the evenings. I don't think we've even gone into PF the last 2 or 3 trips up there unless it was driving through on the way to/from....but I know folks that can go up there for a week and never once set foot in the National Park.....it's mind-boggling
