What is a fair way to select or pin out shooting houses ? First come first serve or he who owns them hunts them ?

I'd rather skin a gut shot deer than work any day WTFO.

I was speaking with someone the other day who is a member of a club that I'm thinking about joining and this topic came up. They have a drawing at a certain time the night before to select the order in which members get to choose their spots. If someone is not there for the drawing, then it's first come first serve for whichever spots are still available. There are no personal plots or shooting houses, so if you draw that location, you can hunt it.

First come first serve. We've got alot of guys that show up twenty before daylight. The few of us that actually put out the effort work well doing this.

First come First serve on all club plots and shooting houses. If a member has a loc-on or ladder, that is not on a Club FoodPlot, it must have their name on it for it to be unusable by others. All areas are open to any member, its just the stand (climber, loc-on, ladder, etc.) that is unusable, unless permission is received.

Me too. If you want a certain stand, get there early....

X2 to what BDHunts said.

first come first serve seems most fair imo. lawyers or others on this forum may correct me, but if the shooting house is physically attached (concreted in legs as an example) to the real property i believe it actually belongs to the landowner at that point. at least that's what the prof told us in a business law class i was forced to take in college.

We are first come first serve, but you cant sign out until 4:30am. If two members want to hunt the same area, they simply flip a coin. So far, no one has called for a flip, we always offer someone to pick first, never been a problem.

If you built it, you have the right to select that stand the first weekend of the season, after that, it open to everyone.

All shooting houses are club property by our rules.

First one to sign out: first choice.

Second one to sign out: Check the map. If a magnet is in an area you want to hunt, look elsewhere. Don't crowd your buddy.

Third man to sign out: Look at the map and the magnets. Say, "Oh crap, that's where I wanted to go." Then look elsewhere and move on. Don't crowd your buddies.

etc, etc

Third man out usually gets the buck. grin

Works good for us.

This is why I only lease with family. And have enought houses and blinds for everyone. If its the house that everyone wants, go by about 4 or 5 ameristep blinds and pop them up where you dont have houses and tie them down for long term. That's what I hunted Saturday on a cutover. Only 100 bucks or so per setup and your buddy can hunt your honey hole for the weekend. When we lease land we make one rule. Rule # 1) there are NO rules. You work, you pay, you play. You want to shoot 20 does? Fine. You want 3 points or better? Fine. I wi kill my three antlered bucks per season and I will kill all the dang does I want. We have never had a problem.

I was in a "my house-my stand" club a couple years ago... it sucked! Rule was you couldn't hunt someone elses house or stand without permission... you couldnt hunt within 500 yards of someone elses stand (weather they were in it or not) and there were two folks in particular that had 30 stands and shooting houses between the two of them that they would NOT let anyone else hunt.
I wound up hunting about 20 acres of a 3500 acre lease because I didnt have stands built everywhere...there wasnt room.
Glad I got out!
