I recently bought a Savage 110 Apex Hunter. It was the only left handed bolt action I could find. It has the 20” inch barrel and is fairly light. This is the first short barreled bolt gun I’ve ever owned. I was pleasantly surprised how well it shot with 150gr Federal soft points. The new design on the stock was not bad at all but I put a Boyd’s Hardwood stock on it. I’m really liking this little rifle.

None have mentioned the Rem 700? I guess I will.

How about an old Winchester lever in 308 if you want a great woods gun.

Steyr Pro Hunter?

If you have the coin, how about a Dakota in 308 or one of Kenny Jarret's?

I’ve had two Weatherby’s in 308(gave one to my son) both are great shooting rifles, I have a Bergara B-14 in 300 mag and it seems to be a really good shooting rifle.

I'd buy a bergara i was in the same boat 308 ammo has been easy to come by thru this ammo shortage. I looked at every rifle we sell where i work and i ended up with a bergara. I got the hmr but it's more a situational rifle i wouldn't want to pack it anywhere but i have other guns for that. This will be a powerline/cutover gun. The ridge felt awesome for the money

The one thing I don't like about savage is their action is the same length for say a 308 or a 30-06. So even if you have a short action cartridge, you are running it in a long action.

Only if you are looking at the new 110 series rifles. The older model 10-11-12-14 & 16 were true short actions while the 110-111-112-114 & 116 were long actions.

x3 on the Tikka T3... super accurate.

7mm-08 is my go to cartridge, which is a necked down .308. had a H&R crack barrel in this round for my teenager and i loved the round so much i bought it in Tikka rifle.
from kids to adults 7mm08 so versatile, low recoil but 139 gr will knock a deer on its az

The Savage Axis ii in .30-06 is a nice gun. Have the SS barrel and Bushnell 3-9×40 which is fine.
Very light, has new trigger which is adjustable, newer stock design with less recoil.
To me the preset pressure seems fine.

You can get it in .308 and others

Note: you will need a Weaver scope rail to mount it. Not sure which other rails will fit.

They are light…..
I find mine harder to shoot than a heavier rifle.

Slap some good European glass on top and it will balance it right out. I’ve got two 84M in .308, each topped with a Swaro. One set up for long range and the other sighted in for Alabama whitetail. With Hornady factory match ammo they will shoot as good as my Christensen Arms custom rifle and both priced together are too about 1/3 the price of a Custom job. Great value. If you have larger hands you might want to change out the trigger and trigger guard. Other than that, it’s a great shooting gun for the money. My set ups are a dream to shoot and very accurate out of the box. They outshoot my REM 700 and Savage 116 in .308.

My brothers Tikka T1 shoots 3/4" groups at 200 yards. He won't sell it to me, I'm 0-3 in trying to buy it from him.

Steyr is making prohunters again, the prohunter 2, and one of the four calibers it comes in is 308. My prohunter is a cloverleaf gun. 20 inch barrel shooting 150grain 308 federal nontypicals, nothing fancy at all ammo wise and it's still a .5 moa gun.

If you don't want to spend as much money my savage comes very close in shooting performance. Or you might be able to find a used OG prohunter, but I'd imagine most folks that bought them are satisfied. They're shooters for sure.
