They’ll grow. Amazing place. Toured the Nativ Nurseries facility about 10 years ago when I was a distributor and planted 6 late drop and regular live oak seedlings and 3 bigger trees I brought back from West Point. The bigger trees are now producing acorns and the seedlings all survived and are growing except for one. The one that died was my fault because of where I planted it but the others are thriving. The guy who ran the place is now on Gamekeepers tv and a horticultural genius. My deer are loving the acorns especially the one late drop tree.

Any of you guys have any experience with replanting a clear cut with different oaks instead of planting pines? What would be some good ways to minimize weed competition for the first few years for each seedling? Spraying roundup around each small tree over 40 or so acres would be a daunting task. Or should I just let nature take its course? Go talk with the local NRCS office. I was told last year they had some funding programs for replanting oak hardwoods in that area. They will also have a good plan for maximizing replanting results.

Nativnursery is pushing a white x overcup hybrid. Claiming 8 ft of growth a season on their utube video. Might be worth checking into also.

little off topic, when we had land in Furman, we had a state champion Cherry bark oak that they plaqued. You could have moved two family of Juans in that tree. Also had a state champion Shumard oak a couple miles away from it. Man, I miss that place and ol Arnolds boston butt sammichs. I don't know who owns the property now but, that tree was always loaded with acorns.
