The video is on YouTube, but you have to sign in. First time I’d ever seen or heard about it, but I was young at the time.

Do you not wait for backup on a warrant call. Just asking?

Most cops around here have a Glock 42 back up gun.

Possession does not equal competence. That may sound harsh but it's true, the militarization of police is to blame in part I'm fairly certain if the trooper would've had a .357 and proper mindset the incident would've been much better.Notice I said mindset and not training. While I'm sitting in my Monday evening QB chair anyone believe that today's thugs would notice how men like Bill Tilghman Jelly Bryce Bill Jordan Skeeter Skelton Charlie Miller handled this business of wokeness and animosity towards them as Officers? It's take about two weeks to cleanup this state and 4 months of paperwork and review from the District Attorneys office but collectively our society would flourish.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

When the trooper attempted to put the guy in custody, a fight ensued and the guy grabbed the trooper’s taser. The trooper pulled his gun to shoot and the gun malfunctioned. The guy then pinned the trooper on the ground and wrestled the gun from the trooper, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger. The gun malfunctioned again. The guy then fled the scene with the taser and the gun.

I can’t imagine having someone point your own gun at you and pull the trigger. Just wow.
if that’s the case that trooper needs to count his blessings. Glad they caught the worthless bastard though

I think every law enforcement officer should be carrying a Glock model 20 loaded with 155 grain hollow points and if they can’t handle it. Get on down the road.

The bad guy got his gun but in the tussle for it the slide was racked back just enough to cause a stovepipe. Bad guy kept pointing and pulling the trigger but nothing was happening. This gave Packy enough time to get his backup and fatally shoot the bad guy. This was in the early 90's. The whole incident was on video from a camera mounted on the vehicle dashboard, which Packy paid for and put in himself. After this the County started putting them in all their vehicles. The video is still out there and has been on a number of police shows if you can find it. It started showing up everywhere so I believe Packy got it copywrited to control access. BTW, there is no doubt that this saved his butt in the political climate in Selma at the time.

A stovepipe to me is after a round has been fired it gets caught in the slide's breech face.

So there was a round fired in the tussle, or after the bad guy got the pistol which caused a "stove pipe"?

God Bless,
David B.

No shots were fired but the round was not fully ejected from the slide being racked back halfway which caused it to get hung up in the action half way in and half way out.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Do officers ever required to carry without one in the chamber? Shift change and stuff like that?

Not that I've ever heard. Every so often our Firearms officer would hold a mass cleaning session and all weapons would be cleared before entering the classroom. Except that one that got through somehow. A pretty good officer ended up putting a round through the table he was sitting at, which still had the hole as a reminder the last time I was in the training room. I don't know who was more embarrassed the officer, or the firearms instructors, all 5 of them. Training and such were the only times I can recall requiring an empty weapon.

Then there was the time that an officer turned in an "empty" shotgun to his Sgt. to be placed in the evidence locker. While walking down the hall towards the locker the Sgt. reached down and pulled the trigger I guess just to make sure it was empty. The gouge in the marble floor is still there just outside the Record's office if you are ever in the building and wonder how that pretty floor got messed up?

The only other time I can recall a mishap was on our Night Firing Qualification and my buddy next to me had a misfire. Scared the crap out of me but he did like we were trained to do and had the muzzle pointed down range.

I guess we were lucky as no one got hurt in any of these incidents although someone easily could have. Any time my son has been up there I make sure to point out the holes and stress this is why all guns are to be treated as if they are loaded.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Simple conjecture on my part but its not too difficult to knock a semiauto out of battery in a situation like that. Doesn't take much.

They already make you carry so much stuff on you it is hard to find a place for one.

Two is one, one is none. All my years on duty, I lived by this. Two handguns, two flashlights, two knives, two pens - every day.

I have no idea, but if you have never wrestled with a 135lb. methhead, you wouldn't understand. They have an unearthly account of strength.

Terrible bite work by K9 in that video. If the dog had actually grabbed flesh and not the jacket, more than likely he’s never in this situation

Could of hit the mag button in the tussle and dislodged it enough that it wouldn’t fire, or it just completely fell out. Accidental mag drops when fighting over a firearm aren’t that uncommon.

Also, fighting in body armor and full duty belt is a lot harder than fighting without.

I’d bet my life on a Glock 17.
Maybe the slide got pushed back a little while he was riding around? I want to hear what happen too.
