I've had a few #1's and they are beautiful rifles.

The pro's - Classic and collectable, have been appreciating in value, beautiful.

The con's - Accuracy issues can be hard to find. And the elephant in the room .... it's a single shot. The latter is the reason I can't hold on to one. When I went hunting I never picked it up for that reason alone. It would do the job all day long, but I just went to a turn bolt or a repeater every time, and that's why.

I have a buddy that has a safe full of them. He buys everyone he sees.
He has duplicate calibers if they are "different". i.e custom stocks etc.
He has those he hunts with that show wear and those he just collects that are pristine.

My brother has a 243. It’s a shooter but I wouldn’t want to tote it, especially someplace like Jackson county.

A good buddy has a stainless laminate in 7STW. I did load work for him. Puts 160 Accubonds into about 3/4 MOA. One of the sweet things about No 1s, can have a 26" barrel and still have relatively short rifle.

I have owned several over the years and decided the T/C Encore or Contender was a much better platform if you are into single shot rifles. Which I am not.

They have had some interesting calibers over the years and sort of a Gentleman's rifle. But other than that I got limited use for an expensive single shot. They are also hard to re-sell. A few people love them but most average gun owners are not interested.

From what I have read, the older red pad models tend to be the ones with hit or miss accuracy issues. I have two black pad models. 300 H&H and 7x57 Mauser. Both will shoot MOA slow fire with the right loads. The 300 H&H I have taken to 600yds at the CMP range in anniston. Surprised quite a few guys at the range that i could hold 1 to 1.5 MOA at 600yds without a heavy bolt action and tactical scope. Course handloads, dope, front bag, squeeze sock, and wind flags help a lot.

They are certainly not for everybody. But I am left handed so I really like the controls as a lefty. I am used to a single shot as we carried savage model 24's or a winchester 67a all year long growing up. The No.1's I have are the sporter models with iron sights and 22" barrels (I think). However, they are compact due to the short receiver, and balance very well in the hand.

I have a 1b in 25-06, downside it’s heavy. Just think they are cool, would like to have Browning 1885 low wall.

Outstanding cartridge choices for your No 1's. I'm kinda like Goatkiller in that single shots aren't really my thing but would be tempted by one of those if the wood was very pretty.

Comparing those two with the Ruger Number 1 doesn’t even make sense. They are in a totally different class.

My go to deer rifle for sitting in a shooting house is a #1 in 257 Roberts topped with an older Zeiss Conquest w/ 44 objective. It is fairly heavy but for limited walking etc it is a great gun in a very underrated caliber.

My #1 wish list includes the International version in 257 Bob or 7x57……too much money for me at this time. I wish the 22-250 had a faster twist as II enjoy deer hunting with my faster twist one.

I love single shots. Always have for whatever reason. They definitely have benefits in regards to longer barrel length yet shorter OAL. Actually just pulled my wife’s H&R heavy barrel .243 out of the safe for her to carry this afternoon. I’ll more than likely have my Stainless CVA in .444 Marlin.

The Ruger #1 RSI is a beautiful rifle if you like “full stocked” guns. But the Dakota Model 10, with case coloring, is probably the prettiest single shot rifle ever made. Of course that’s just my opinion.

I love Ruger #1's! I've got 6 or so of them, red pads in the 131- serial number range. I'm still kicking myself for passing on serial number 390 that was original down to the vertical split scope mounts. It was in .308 Win, so it didn't tickle my fancy. Plus they wanted $1590 for it.

Accuracy issues are a real thing with #1s, especially the RSI's. I have a 7x57 RSI that is crazier than a march hare when it comes accuracy, but it sure is pretty. I'll get a load worked up for it sooner or later. On the other hand I have a 1-B in .243 that will send rounds through a ragged hole if the shooter does his job.
