One time I was turning into Black Pond off Hwy 195. I was in a club back then and we could start signing in at 0400. As I neared my turn a giant 8 pointer just casually strolls across the road in front of me and stands in the oncoming lane. I backed up, rolled my window down and tried to shew him off the road thinking he had been brain damaged or something. Well that son of a gun started putting his fur up and let out a snort wheeze that caught me so off guard I hopped back in the truck and got away from him. When he snort wheezed I was probably a foot or two from touching him with my hand.

When I was a kid hunting with my dad we had a buck in front of the neighbors dog run into the clearing we were standing in and my dad shot it at 3 feet and it died at my feet. Pretty crazy. Burned the hair on his hide.

This happened today wasn’t hunting I was walking across a feild to put new batteries in the camera and heard something running through the woods I stopped and looked and out runs a yearling and was literally about to run me over. I put my arms out and was just gonna try to catch the bastard in mid air and it stopped a ft away from me. I held my hand out and it sniffed my hand and I was trying to pet it and it realized I was a human I guess and trotted off. Never in my life has that happened. Y’all will probably think I’m on some good stuff but my son was sitting in the jeep watching it all. He was amazed

We had several yard deer at our previous house. This was in town but we had 20 acres right beside the house of thickets. Anyway there was one young bucks that hung around for 2 years. I would push mow the backyard and could get to writhing 10-15’ of him for 2 straight summers. He would frequent the yard after velvet shed every fall but wasn’t as comfortable. Very odd but I’m sure it had a lot to do with testosterone levels.

My first 8 point ran onto an old log road I was walking on, about 15 feet away. He stopped and we stared at each other forever. The wind was swirling, but he never smelled me. He bobbed his head up and down trying to ID me. I thought about shooting from the hip but didn't. I remember thinking "I'll never get a decent shot at him. He will be a blur any second when he takes off". Finally, he turned and ran. After a couple of fouled ejections from my Mossberg 500, a miss and a couple of saplings getting in the way of my Sabots, I managed to get one in him and put him on the ground, where I was able to get a shot through his chest.

Yesterday, Choc Zone B buck hunt.
Doe came running off side of hill down into creek bed right in front of me. Right as she started walking up to my right in the ridge, I saw the buck come out into creek bed.
He was chasing hard, followed doe up to my right, the both passed close enough I could have hit both of them with an acorn!

As I was counting bucks rack, his right side had the 4th point but it wouldn't have went 1 inch to be legal so I didn't shoot.

The reason I think requiring a point to measure 1inch is retarded!
IMO, if there is definitely a point growing, THAT should be legal enough
I've seen other yahoos shoot a deer like that and during check in the GW said nothing about it not being 1 inch!
My luck I woulda got ticket!

Those are three first 2 deer I've seen all season this year ☹

I was doing some reading online, and it said anytime there is a big acorn crop, the number of deer killed is lower than years when there isn't one.

When I was walking with the dogs, they jumped one, it ran right towards me, I hit it with the butt of my shotgun as it ran past me. I did not feel like it was safe for me to shoot with the standers in all directions.

Back in 2012 or 2013 I had a doe step over my legs. I was sitting with my back on an oak tree that had some prominent roots above the ground 3-4", I was between two of them. She stepped over my legs as if they were roots. Kinda scary, thought I might get kicked if she realized what I was haha. I hunt from the ground a lot, 10-15 feet is almost common.

I grew up deer hunting with my dad in a club that ran dogs back in the late 90's early 00's. I can remember sitting on a stump in the middle of a cutover one morning that was right next to a deer trail. Dogs jumped some deer and started getting closer to me, about the time I thought "I better stand up" I see 3 does coming wide open down the trail about 20 yards away, so I had to start waving my arms and holler to keep from getting run over. I guess the lead one was about 5 yards away when they shot off to the side into the cutover.

Closest was no further than 3 feet away. A spike came up to me and scent checked me. I could hear him sucking in air trying to figure out what I was. The wind was blowing from him to me, so he never made me. He just turned and walked off.

Ive had a bunch of deer within a yard or two. Back in the 80s and early 90s when we had a lot more deer my uncle would always say his walking stick was for self defense during our drives. Ive had several times I had to step out of the way when deer wouldnt turn around.

Heck, now I just hope I can see a deer at any distance.

I had a smallish hog look at my blind and come right at me in a trot. I think he was just curious about it. I put a CCI Mini-mag right between his eyes at about 10 yards in self defense. I didn't want that bastage in my clump of bushes with me! I'd rather had waited in the others that were behind him and picked off the biggest with an earhole shot but he forced the issue!

I had a doe nearly run over me at Wheeler last weekend. I was sitting on the ground tucked back in a small opening in the brush along the edge of the woods watching her nosing around in the cut over corn field. I was hoping she would work her way into range when something spooked her and she bolted for the woods. Unfortunately she headed straight to the little opening I was sitting in. Got maybe 8-10 feet in front of me and slid to a stop trying to figure out what was blocking her path into the woods, stood there a few seconds looking at me before she took off again.
