My daughter tried out for a travel team today. We as parents were told they they would not select anyone until after the next tryout. Got close to home and got a text from the coach wanting a verbal commitment by Tuesday. So the problem is, Austin is trying out for another team that is closer in a couple weeks so we don’t want to commit just yet. If I tell them that we have another tryout and want to wait, would you as a coach or parent that’s been in this situation pass on her as a player? We have never been in this situation and don’t really know how to handle it.

That was the wife asking pretty sure most already figured that out though.

What does Austin want to do?

I agree with dead eye. Where does she want to play the most? Which one has the best program for her?

She doesn’t know. She likes the team she tried out for but has some friends that will try out for the other team. I think the one from today will have a better program, and I’m not sure what the other team has to offer. She played pick up with this team a few weeks ago and had a blast. I just don’t like the fact that she has to have an answer by Tuesday.

Just text him and tell him you'll need more time. It will all work out for the best.

Tell him the truth. He will take her if she’s good wether it’s Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday if she ends up wanting to play there. If he don’t then wasn’t meant to be.

This is what I’d do. Tell him you’ll let him know by x date and then let Austin decide which team she wants to play for.

Age group?

Her position? How’s her hitting ability? Base running speed ?

Obviously if she’s a good pitcher/catcher, has an above average bat or speed that makes her a valuable commodity.

Is the next tryout before Tuesday? Just from reading I am guessing not. In my opinion that's not a good way to start out on the right foot.

To answer your question, if I were a coach, I’d pass. Just being honest.

Me too if I hadn't lied to the parents about selection being after the next tryouts. As a parent I wouldn't let my kid play for them after he broke his first statement to parents. Early signs of drama to me.

How does this team fit what SHE wants ? Coached by dads or others ? Local or exposure tournaments ? How does this team compare to the other in that regard?

From a former high school coach : I would be up front with the first team coach, travel ball can have way too much travel to it . If they saw something they liked in her they will wait on your decision. If not, she probably would be better off with the second team. My 2 cents

This right here. Biggest thing is let her decide. She's the one doing the most work and has to be happy and having fun. My granddaughter could be on some bigger better teams but she loves the girls she plays with and they don't have drama as a team and the parents haven't had any drama.

It’s just hard to commit to a team 45 minutes away when she may make the team 15 minutes away.
