I put a new set of ridge grapplers on 2 weeks ago for $1400. 275/70/18 10 ply Tire manufacturers apparently still jack the price up for 20" wheels vs 17-18", despite there being less material in an otherwise equivalent size tire. I understand why they were more 20yrs ago when 20's were much less common, but in 2021, a 20" wheel on a full size truck is just as common as any other size, if not more so.... Question for all the AlDeer experts: I’m thinking about getting new wheels/tires on my Tundra, which currently has 20” wheels. Is there any reason why I would not want to buy 18” aftermarket wheels, and then plus up the tire size to get me back to the same diameter overall that I am currently running? My tire guy had a helluva time finding 18” tires for my Tundra. I was looking for a 285 or 295 and the only one he could get in a relatively short time was a Nexen. Might check around for the availability of the 18’s before buying new wheels.

As a former automotive parts person my advice is patience. I could write a detailed post on major manufacturers slowing down production to ensure business solvency in these uncertain times instead I'll just say "Let's Go Brandon". And call it good.
Only hits count.

I had trouble finding new 20" tires for my truck recently. I had 3 shops looking for 3 weeks with no results. One shop called saying they had 5 tires show up as inventory at another store and I bought them on the spot. Not the tires I was wanting but I had to have something. They are Nittos so not bad tires just not what I was hoping for.
If you need tires and find the ones you want, buy them!

Tires are getting scarce in the most popular "Aftermarket" sizes. I've never seen so many 33,35,&37" tires sold as I have in the last 18 months (Stimulus $'s). Production can't keep up, shipping can't keep up, raw materials are getting hard to find. Container shipping has gone through the roof. Price increases like I have never seen in 30 yrs in the industry.
As much as I agreed with the Chineese tarriffs that My presidnet Trump put on them, they are a big contributor to the price increases. Hell, MAST (Michelin America Small Tire) has had 4 price increases this year of about 8% each. When the cheap chineese stuff goes up 20% due to tarriffs, etc. The quality stuff goes up as well to maintan the same gap between the 2 products. 8% on a $200 michelin is tough now multiply times 4. That Tire is $271.00 now. Normally tires will go up 6-8% in the spring and maybe have a small adjustment late summer but this year has been rediculous.
That set of Michelins that were $1000 3 yrs ago that now need to be replaced will cost $1400 now. Its crazy but we cannot keep up. I have a full crew and need 2 more just to meet demand and I can't find them.

Every

Seems that the reviews are very mixed with the Ridge Grapplers

I hear you 2dogs. I paid about that same amount three years ago for my Falkens and if that’s what tires are costing nowadays I might reconsider the usefulness of a horse. The steel to shod one would even out.

On the subject of price increases. I'm having some warranty work done on a $300 TV from Amazon I bought in Feb. The same TV is now $400. Sheesh!

I have Cooper AT tires. I gave $600 for them at Wal Mart. They are good tires. I've ran them before.
