There is really no workaround with the only option being is to wait for the next update.
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

I am here to help. Trash the iPhone and get an Android. Its a cult, they can't help themselves.

Take your phones off automatic updates! Wait until the geeks have a chance to look through and test updates before you do a manual update. Saves a lot of trouble. I would love to do that but our company doesn’t buy us phones. They will pay a portion of your bill. So I have access to things from my phone that requires automatic updates be turned on.

I am an aviation software engineer and I have a responsibility to never release any software that has even a minor error in it. My first smart phone was an iPhone and every damn update resulted in software errors which was absolutely unacceptable to me. I switched to Android (years ago) which had a reputation for being a techie phone with no software errors. Not a single software error since. Call it a cult if you want but I cannot tolerate sloppy coding and error riddled software.

I'm a linux kind of guy and My wife and both my kids kill me. They complain about Apple and get all defensive when you bring it up.

I think many people find the iPhone user interface easier to understand. I appreciate OS capabilities and correctness more than ease of use. I guess it is sort of a cult.

The same goobers writing the apps for iOS are the same ones writing the apps for Android. Find it hard to believe you've never had a single bug in any single Android app ever. I used Android for many, many years and found plenty of them. I use Apple b/c it's compatible with what most of the people I communicate with use and the actual phone hardware is better to me. I'm also a tech guy. I'm self employed and work on Oracle products for a living...I'm not even sure they do any damn QA testing these days, I'm shocked when I find something w/out a bug in it!!!

I am referring to operating system errors, not application errors. Big difference. As for apps, you only get what you choose. The OS makes no difference there. And believe it or not, I had numerous OS (native software on the phone) errors with iPhone. None so far with Android.
