How is everyone getting the required lime on their fields these days? Years ago we had someone that could do 1 or 2 tons with a spreader truck but he is not in the business anymore. Since then we have purchased pelletized lime but we just need too much of it. Thanks in advance.

Most fertilizer places where you can buy bulk lime, will no longer come out and spread it. They will sell it to you by the ton, but won't come on hunting club land and spread. Most will rent you the buggy if you will pick it up and return and if you have a tractor to hook to it that will work, Let them deliver and dump on your property and you rent the buggy and spread. You will need a front end loader on your tractor to load buggy from the ground and if you only have one tractor you will have to unhook and re- hook the trailer each time you fill it. A real pain. Most buggies hold around 5 tons. If you can't find the buggy, a few of the Auburn Extension Offices out in the counties may have one and they will let you use it free in the county. It holds about three tons at a time and you can pull it with a large ATV. My club is in Coosa County and I got one for two days free from the Auburn Center in Rockford Al. You can spread other ways or put out pellet lime a bag at the time, but the above is the best way to put out a lot.

Just put the lime in the coconut and drink 'em both up...

Local Co-ops around here won’t spread for wildlife openings any more. Just agricultural. You can still rent a buggy and do it yourself from a few.

As others have said, the local co-op's will no longer spread the lime for food plots. I also know a guy that borrowed a buggy and the loader on his tractor did not have enough height to put the lime in the buggy after they brought it. I'm doing it the hard way this year. I've got almost 5600# to put out from 40# bags. That's 140 bags. I'll probably hire some help and this will be the last time I do it this way. While the co-op won't, there are folks that will do this for you for a fee.

I did ag lime last year by renting a dump trailer and hauling it to each field. Then I spread it by hand. I had a rubbermaid tote I would put on the back of my disk and I'd fill it up, run out into the field and throw it with a small shovel. It's better if you haul it to each field and then have a club work day and use an ATV trailer to haul it and have people spread it.

Pellet lime is easy especially if you have a 3pt spreader. You probably get the most even coverage that way.

I want one of these ==>https://www.jrmetalproducts.com/home/groundbuster/

I spread 8 tons last Friday with a buggy from co-op. Think total cost for lime + buggy was $300.

Fayette Ag will as long as you have decent roads. Or at least they would last year.

Bags of pelletized and spreader. It’s time consuming and expensive to put out a decent amount let alone how much I actually need but I don’t own a tractor large enough to pull the buggy and even if I it wouldn’t make it to al my fields I need to lime because of creek crossings.

Workin for the man, huntin when I can.

John said, you’re roads had to be in good shape and 12 feet wide as not to knock his mirrors off.
We bought a drop spreader to go behind the ranger to get the fields the spreader truck can’t get to.

God limed my fields a million years ago.

North Sumter has so much limestone I have never had to put out lime.

I do not have a field with a pH of less than 6.5. Highest one is 8.2. Its hard to get something to grow well in 8.2

Takes lots of sulfur to get that ph down.

Buggy and make sure you have enough tractor to pull it.
