Who has set up a DirectTV system at their camp from scratch? I need to use my current home account to order 3 boxes (me and two other club members) and buy a dish off the internet.

1) If I tell DirectTV what I’m doing, do they have a problem with that? Incur excess fees for setting up boxes on another property?
2) How hard is it to align a dish from scratch without a special signal meter?
3) What other issues have y’all had setting up a satellite dish system at camp off your home account?

Thank you

I don’t have a deer camp but if I did, wouldn’t have a tv. Good luck though

I know they'll allow you ONE "camper" box, but I'm not too sure about 3. Seems like that would be a little too obvious, and they'd require you to establish new service at the camp. But, knowledge is only a phone call away.

Used to be able to do this with a single box and one connection. Setting the dish takes a little time but is doable. I’m not sure they don’t have that little truck figured out now, especially with multiple connections off of 1 receiver. I got caught back in 2014 but all they did was raise my monthly rate by like $5 I think. Forgot about the box at camp and had some issue at the house, service dude said hey where’s the box that’s in bedroom 3? I just looked at him and said, how do we make this right. He laughed and said I will work to get you a reduced rate.

Just tell them you need them for your primary residence.
As far as I dish you can get one offline with no problems.
Alignment of the dish is not an issue either. Go to your App Store on your phone and download an app.

I installed direct box and dish and used my smartphone to point the dish. It took a little longer than I expected but most of my projects do.
The directv box thinks it’s at your house so set the zip code for home.
Can’t remember if it’s DirectTV or Dish but one of them will tell you can’t do it. But you can.

When we go camping the wife can use her phone as a hotspot and then my phone to access our dish account and that lets us watch just like we were at home

Tell them it is your vacation home, we didn’t have an issue.

More than one box?

The issue isn't ONE box. Lots of people have a "camper" box. I've had one for years, both with Dish and Direct. I think the question is if they'll allow multiple "camper" boxes without having to establish service onsite.

Unless the boxes are hooked to wifi or the internet they wouldn’t know if you had 1 or 5 boxes. Just add them to your home account and take them and leave at the camp. If you ever have equipment failure at your house and need a service call then the extra boxes would need to be onsite.

If you tell directv they will want you to have a separate service. Not very hard at all to set up. They older dishes were easier than the new style slimline. The new boxes have built in signal meters in the settings, just have someone watch the numbers while you make adjustments to it.

I’d go with one box, then just use splitters to each TV. Everybody will just have to watch the same show.
