We might have met in the early 1980s. Small airplanes had a thriving business back then.

It's a great movie and a true story. But you're right, no one steals drugs and drug money from the federal government and cartels and survives it.

My favorite scene is when he crashes the plane in a neighborhood and rides away on the bicycle.

For those that are retiring young.

Are you in a government position with a pension?
Business owner?
W2 employee?

When I retire I’m gonna work 2-3 days a week at one of our local hardware stores. Already got it covered.

Guy I went thru high school with retired at 43 as a fireman. Started the day after he graduated high school and turned in his 25yrs, all at the same station. Not my cup of tea but I can’t knock it.

My lifestyle is hunting and fishing so if I made enough money in retirement to maintain it then I'm good. In all seriousness I would see a dramatic increase to the improvements I did to my hunting property so I would have to offset those costs.

If it was just for spending cash then I would find work that meant more to others than me.... example: be a janitor at the church (they usually have a hard time finding folks because they can't afford to pay them much), do books for a charity that I support (instead of them having to pay for what somebody with my experience costs give them a break)..... stuff like that. It would be fulfilling plus I could make a little money.

If by age 45 I had amassed enough to be able to retire and live comfortably including all medical expenses in old age, a socked-away emergency fund, and everything was copacetic, there is no way in hell I'd ever work a day in my life again.

Stay busy? Sure. I'd be hunting, fishing, yard stuff, whatever. But I'd never work a job for The Man again, ever, if there was ample money for retirement. The issue is having enough to cover medical expenses that will be there for you and/or your spouse.

I don't understand wanting to work for someone after retiring. Staying busy is one thing. Actually having a job and working more? Hell no.
