Folks can’t live without a crew cab truck or Tahoe and the auto companies know it. No price is too high. And I can’t see prices ever coming down. The price won't come down as long as people will pay it.....and people won't stop paying it until banks stop financing them for 72 or even 84 months....The general public doesn't give a crap what it costs as long as they can swing that monthly payment...

I'm out of the truck market until these prices come down from the moon. I'm now in the 4 door sedan market. I can get a premium 4 door sedan, loaded all the way out, with less than 40,000 miles, for less than $20K.
A comparable 4WD $ door truck with the same miles and year, and loaded out, is almost triple the price.
I love trucks and have never had anything but trucks, so I am keeping my current truck that has almost 250K miles, and getting a car to work and run around in. Will use the truck for hunting/hauling etc, to ,make it last for several more years.
I thought I would NEVER buy a dang car, but inflated prices say otherwise.
Consider an Avalon, it is pretty much a Lexus ES350 without the badge. I've put 175,000miles on mine in less than 4 year and it has been extremely reliabile.

I know that after only driving a 2500 class pickup or Santa Fes for the last 13 years that I loathe getting into and out of anything that sits lower than the Santa Fe. It might have something to do with that whole getting older thing, not to mention feeling like I am sitting on the ground when I get into a sedan or coupe. A coupe would just be straight out of the question if I had anything that had to go in the back seat. My very first car was a 1981 Buick Regal (not my choice) and I had a friend with kids and getting car seats and kids in the back seat was a PITA!
But, to AU7MM08's thinking, he is correct that lots of first time moms want the big SUV, in part because they want to keep up with the Jones', but also because until you have a child and travel with one, it is hard to wrap your mind around all the stuff that one takes along on the trip besides the child. If there are two or more kids and anyone else ever needs to ride with you (like a grandparent, niece/nephew, etc), then you are pretty much forced to get out of a sedan into a large SUV or minivan.

There's a guy I follow on instagram called adventurestang. His wife, kid, and large breed dog travel the country camping in a rooftop tent on a 67 Mustang coupe.
Yup. People all over the globe especially in ThirdWorld-lower GDP countries get by with sedans and they're often very small compared to US/modern standards. Brazil & Mexico stopped production on the original VW Beetle in like 2008, yes which is a while ago but not all that long ago. They were used heavily as taxi cabs.

Keeping up with the Jones is a HUGE part of it with the SUV craze for Moms in my opinion How do I know? Because minivans are more practical for the role of hauling kids(sliding doors) and typically more affordable than other 6+ passenger vehicles. Ask many middle-upper middle class mom's if they would ever drive a minivan and get responses like ewwwww, hell no etc My belief is supported with sales trends: minivans are down and SUVs are up huge.

The same 2018 RAM 1500 Bighorn 4x4 that I bought at EchoPark Automotive a couple of months ago for an out the door price of $28000, has gone up at least $5000 since I bought it.
I hope it lasts me a long time. Which EchoPark did you buy from Irish? We have been doing a lot of the mechanical for the EchoPark conversions lately. I bought mine from the Nashville store. They had the only V6, 4x4, Bighorn with the 3.55 gears I could find near here.

I think the new suv prices are crazy, but I don't know how people get by with the little suvs and minivans. I tried to talk my wife into a suburban years ago but she wanted smaller. So, we got a grand Cherokee. It had no room for anything. Every trip or day trip to the lake I was hooking up the hitch carrier. Finally got her into a Yukon xl. Now she knows what we were missing No more tying crap on the roof and it tows much better than the grand Cherokee. Not near as good in deep snow though. Soon enough we'll have 3 large humans, a 90# dog, and my wife who is 5'9" everywhere we go. Little cars and SUVs just won't cut it. Guns, coolers, chairs, clothes, fishing gear...it all takes space
