Way back in 1991, my aunt and uncle bought me two $100 EE US savings bonds as a high school graduation gift. I didnt know that I had them until I got them from my mother's (now deceased) safe deposit box. I went ahead and cashed them at the bank because they were 30 years old and paper deteriorates.
I got $412.62
So if you do the math on that investing.... the government only pays about .01% or one dollar a month. I wish they would have bought me $200 in Microsoft stock back then.

We’d be talking about the upcoming ALDEER app if that had been the case!

I may need to check on the ones I have. My grandparents bought me a $100 savings bond every year for my birthday and Christmas since the time I was born until they both passed away when I was about 20 and i just turned 31 last month.

I just cashed a bunch of bonds that were given to my kids. There were a few still drawing close to 3% interest so I kept those. I bought them some fedex, marathon oil and conoco stock. They are all doing very well

My grandfather gave me one every year until I was 20. I’m 43 and still have them. I guess I should buy something nice that I can hand down. Maybe another firearm.

does a $100 savings bond cost a $100 or less. I know I wouldv'e rather had $200 in 1991 than $500 now.

My grandmother gave me several savings bonds between $20 and $100. I used them to help purchase my wife's engagement ring. Figured I'd trade something with little appreciation for another.

I think these were purchased for $50 each in 1991 and probably took 5 years to mature to $100 each.

What I paid for mine too, only the maturity date was 20 yrs, we had a deal at work where they would auto deduct about 4 or 5 bucks a week and then mail you a bond every 3 or 4 months, I cashed some of them in after 10 yrs or so and wound up getting like 57 or 58 dollars a piece for them.....

My wife has a few that are about 30 years old. They were her sisters, but she passed away years ago and were given to my wife. I think she can cash them in after showing a death certificate or something of that sort. We’ll probably cash them and just put them in the kids 529b. I honestly forgot about them until just now.

A hundred dollars in 91 would go a lot further than 400 bucks today. Not a good investment. I put 300 in a mutual fund for my daughter in 2000. She cashed out 2700 last month.

Exactly, investing in the gubberment is never a good investment. It may not even be a safe investment anymore.

I remember a guy coming around the PD at shift change selling them. He didn't guarantee but the number he kept throwing out was 7% return. No idea how he came up with that.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

You can't even get half that these days. Despite the inflation that's probably even higher.

Don't worry, they will be glad to print all the money they need to pay their bills. Just like Venezuela
