Had my hearing test today and failed it badly. Lady said I could not hear a bird sing.

I really don't care to spend $4800, so what are my best options.

That work for you.... Thanks

They work. Don't cost as much as the Beltone or other $4K+ aids. Guy who founded the company is a hunter, angler and spent 20+ years in the "hearing aid business" so he knows how much bullchit, overhead and other costs are passed on to the consumer. He also worked with musicians in Nashville and was a professor or researcher at Vanderbilt. Knows his stuff and they're good products.

I'm 39 and have already lost a significant amount of my hearing and have tinnitus. If you've ever been around an APU on a chinook or a firing range you know why.

I don't look forward to what you're going through Gulfcoast and just wish the best for you.

Those Tetra look way too big, plus I was told the kind that go in the ear are not strong enough for my hearing loss. My loud ear ringing is 24/7/365.

My loss of hearing bothers my wife way more than it bothers me.

Hearing aids - the prices that is, has to be the biggest SCAM in the American health care industry, which is full of scams and overpricing.
Can't believe what Medicare (taxpayers) pay for those things. My mom has them and they are something like $5000. No one is going to convince me that
they cost more then a few hundred bucks to make.

They’re expensive for sure. I have Resound hearing aids and have been pleased with them. They even replaced one of them for $250 when I lost it. That was only a one time deal but was still nice.

I wear Siemens Sigma. They were $4000 3 years ago. They were an absolute game changer for me. Life changing event and worth every penny to me.

Not sure which ones he has, but my uncles bluetooth to his phone. I walked in one day to him on the phone with his brother, and thought he was having a full on conversation with himself. They're high as hell, but make a world of difference. Don't swat at your ears while running from a yella jacket nest. Spent an hour or so looking for one in an overgrown foodplot last summer, to no avail. Metal detector would not pick it up. Not sure he told my aunt about that one.

I have Widex and they are super expensive but work well. Without aids I have only 15% hearing with 8% word recognition so I am legally deaf. The hearing aids coupled with reading lips allow me to be functional but it has degraded to the point that I have been referred to a cochlear implant surgeon. The hearing aids are expensive but it has afforded me the ability to hear my granddaughters until my hearing declined further.

Mine are Bluetooth as well. I keep waiting for them to tear up. I was told to expect about 5 years out of them. That was 6 years w

Your best option is to spend $4500, but I got the friend discount. They are programmed for the tones I can and can't hear. Even at $4500 there is nothing they can do for my right ear so there is a distortion (tumor and radiation damage) when trying to listen to something with another noise in the background. Loud restaurants still drive me crazy and I really need to see lips to understand what is being said. I can hear it with my aids but just can't comprehend it due to the distortion. It is amazing how music sounds different when you can hear all the tones.

Mine are Bluetooth as well. That is a very nice option for phone calls. Dr. Matt's story reminded me of helping a friend look for his when he lost one cutting firewood. We covered every inch and finally gave up. He found it when he got home and was taking his shirt off. It fell out of his ear and into his shirt pocket.

One of the reasons the cost so much, is the services you get along with them. I've had mine for 3 years, and I go in about every 3 or 4 months. They service them and tweek them for me. I got them for half price through a program from the NRA. Once I got them, I haven't paid for anything. Even had one go bad and was replaced for free. Free batteries for a year also. You get what you pay for, that's for sure. If I have a problem, they take me in right away. The biggest problem I have with them is condensation build up. They put them in a dryer and I'm good to go. They are Audibel brand, by Starky. Made in 'merica. Hearing aides aren't prefect, but the wife loves them and has made life much better.

Costco is far and away the best deal for hearing aids in this country right now. 1800 dollars +/- gets you the same hearing aids that cost 5 grand everywhere else. They will clean/program/replace them free for life.

Hearing aids are one of the worst scams going (in this country). Very sad but it is what it is.

As Geno said Costco. No one can beat their price. Wife has them and prices were as high as $6000 for the pair. Costco $2400 with the exam. She got top of the line Bluetooth ones.

I have the Oticon Plus hearing aids but like the others have said, they are truly life changing. You don’t realize just how much you don’t hear until you get a good set of hearing aids. Mine are bluetooth to my phone plus they have the “ find my ear piece” feature that allows me to track them using the app on my phone. I’ve had mine for 2 years now and have never had to use this feature but it’s dang nice to know it’s there if I need it. The Oticons were $6K but my insurance paid $2500 of it so I was out $3500 but I’d do it again tomorrow.
