Here's the way I see it-- During the last primer shortage, several years back- I got on their list for small pistol primers. Got a call about 3 weeks later and promptly went down and bought the 1000 primers that had my name on them. I still have a couple hundred left as I seldom load anything now that uses them.

But... I turned down a chance to buy some online a couple of weeks ago because I was on the list there-- and didn't because I was On The List and wanted to support the local guys-- and I have- bought a couple of guns from them last year and the usual powder and primers.

If calling me this time around is not important to them, then it doesn't matter to them whether I spend my money there or not. Why should it to me? Hazmat shipping does make powder and primers more expensive than what I'd paid there, but not all that much more. I can afford to bide my time and wait for Brownell's, BPI, etc., send me email notifications- they don't mind doing that, though you still have to act Right Then.

Brownells has an automatic notification system, where Simmons has to pay someone to stay off the sales floor to make hundreds of calls. Big difference, and Brownells will not hold that product for you. It's still first come first serve and you may be one of thousands of people to get notified. If you don't log in and buy within a couple of minutes it will be gone.

But if you've not used 1000 primers since the last shortage, you probably don't need any for a few more years. Simmons will be just fine without your support.

Shotgun primers are what I go through (1900 since December so far)-- and I should mention I have been to the store at least once a week since October, sometimes twice. Last time was... yesterday, in fact.

Most trips: Park, put on the mask, open the door, head straight to the back corner. Same story, no shot, no primers, no powder or wads I'd want. Circle around past the shells, and usually right back out the door in less than 2 minutes.

My thing about the calling and supporting locals: If you take someone's name, and tell them to their face you're going to do something then you need to Do That. I've stood there and listened to them call people and tell them their powder (or whatever) was in, and didn't worry about it because I knew sooner or later I'd get that call as I did a few years back. To decide to just Not do that and not let any of us know, well... I'll take my chances online- I'm on a couple of shooting boards that usually get the messages to me faster than Brownell's/BPI's emails anyway- and I'd rather have the information and be able to act on it than to just sit and wait for something that I now know is not going to happen.

I want to mention also that 2014-2018 I lived in the Dallas/Fort worth area. My shooting range had a fairly well-stocked store, but most of the time I put off my powder purchases until one of my frequent trips to Birmingham so I could buy it from Simmons. The selection was about the same, but the prices were better and I just liked Simmons better. My range's store was selling Varget for $35/pound 5 years ago, so that wasn't a hard call. I've been buying stuff from them since the late 80s, long before they expanded into the "new" store- several guns over the years, and God only knows how much powder. So I don't need a speech about supporting the local guys- I have no interest in seeing them hurt, but if someone I have done business with for decades decides they are not going to do what they looked me in the eye and said they would do, that's on them

I suggest you get something for that pain your feelin...

I have what I need for the next few months, not really interested in your opinion about it.
