Only marked units we have that have tinted windows is the K-9 units. the tinted windows help keep the dogs cool in those kennels. Only other vehicles with tinted windows are our narcotic agents and investigators. It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

Saw a trooper near union town that had his windows damn near blacked out. I've got mine tinted and it helps keep that nasty sun out. I dont even wear sun glasses anymore. You don't want to be standing there waiting for someone to roll their window down only to see a gun barrel pointed at you. Lighter tint you can see what's going on in the car. This is the reason the law was passed. When it was proposed there were no exceptions for LE vehicles but that was Amended I believe for Narcotic officers. They have probably included K-9s also. When I retired there were no exceptions for other LE vehicles. I will say this however, it is very hard, impossible really, with the naked eye to distinguish between illegal and barely legal. Barely legal looks pretty dark to the naked eye and this is how a lot of the police package vehicles come. When I got a new Tahoe as the night shift Commander it came that way and I made them take it off, although it was legal, it made it harder for me to see things at night when I was working. You are right in questioning this Mr. Slayer. It is something that has been so ignored by agencies that many officers actually believe that there is an exception for them in the law, but like I said there is not, at least not when I retired. Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
