The momentum of weight transfer is what enables the lift off the back foot. He shouldn't be able to hold that in a static position unless he's playing golf. It takes a while to figure out timing for when to throw your hips. Throw them too soon and you'll lose bat speed and pull off pitches.
The tire just helps you figure out when you get the timing right, and teaches you to know how that feels (or should feel) so you can replicate it on a tee, then soft toss, then front toss.
Also helps keep that head down and eyes on contact, since the tire doesn't go anywhere when you hit it. Don't need to spend all day on it, but 20-30 reps is a good way to start drills. Hammertime knows what he’s talking about. He has the stats to prove it. Y’all play at JSU by chance? Yep, I was 06-08 and I think he'd been there a year or two when I got there.

Thanks guys...I think this will be my project for the weekend. Now I just have to find a pole. Not sure how close you are to Birmingham but I’ve got (4) different poles concreted into tires free to a good home. When the kids were little we used them to string a net across the parking pad to catch runaway basketballs, skateboards, kiddos, etc.
We’re not dead. We just smell that way. Dayum. - AC870
Yessir! I’m always gonna shoot what makes me happy and I want everyone else to do the same! If you shoot one be proud of it and don’t worry what anyone else thinks. - SJ22

Hitting a basketball off a tee is similar. Makes you drive through contact. Also gives you feedback on how hard you are swinging. Yeah but you better be darn sure you let the air out of it first...or that whole "keeping your eye on the ball" thing will turn into a bat in the face. That’s right. Needs to be a little flat and not bouncy.

Y’all have had some damn good teams for sure! I played at Troy 10-13, was always a good game when we were in y’all’s mountains for the mid week

Beating a tire to death provides limited value VS being able to see the flight of a ball. Just throwing out ideas for alternative solutions. Very true, but the neighbors would appreciate balls not flying through their windows. The tire was one option for something he could do at home.

I played with Beau Brooks in travel ball every summer in high school and played against him at Troy. He had a really good pop-time, but I stole 2nd on him one time at Troy. I was safe on the steal, but y'all had that new turf playing surface and I slid straight out into left field and got tagged out about 12ft past the bag...😆
