I have a quote for a Goodman 14 SEER. Ten year parts, two years labor warranty. Yea or Nay? Reviews are anywhere for Best to Run away.

TIA,

I'd skip a Goodman and go with Trane or American Standard.

Ive sold them little goodman units for 15 yrs.. if put in properly they are as good as anything out there. That is why the reveiws are all over the board. Lot of unlicensed and lot of people not properly trained in the field of hvac putting them in. Ive had good luck with them.

Our house had Goodman units when we bought it 14 years ago (newly built). In 14 years I replaced two run capacitors and a fan control board. All parts were less than $200. Just replaced one unit yesterday due to the compressor going out. No real complaints so far.

I had two Goodmans in my house when I built in 2008. Replaced the upstairs unit after only six years. The bigger down stairs unit got replaced last year so it lasted 12 years but had several costly repairs over those years.. I replaced them both with Carrier units. I go to church with the local dealer and his guys do a great job with installation.

Goodman seems to be the choice with low end builders around Montgomery because they are cheap. I don't know of anybody that replaces a Goodman with another Goodman.

You can get better equipment for about the same money around Birmingham, Goodmans aren't as cheap in price as they used to be. Rheem should be real close as far as dealer cost. Sandmtslayer is right, the install matters most, flushing the old lines or replacing them, real good vaccum down to manufacturer specs and accurate charge are critical on these new 410A systems as well as proper duct work sizing, these new ECM motors don't like under sized duct.

I like Rheem. They seem to do real good for the money.

I work on every brand on the market. They all have their issues. Thats a cold hard truth. I do believe trane has a better compressor than everyone else, but installation is key. Absolutely make them put a new line set. Or flush if its where u cant change it. That will be the life of ur equipment. Any equipment u buy. Goodman kinda gets a bad rap. Mostly becuz of hack job instalations. Improper duct sizing and no vacuum pulled and the like. Dont get me started on the ecms thats not just a goodman issue every piece of equipment on the market has issues with those

Oh I wasn't knocking Goodman, I've installed my share, and actually installed one for myself back in the early 2000's, seems like they were built better before the 13 seer and Amana buyout, but like you said with a good install they can certainly give good service. I'd just prefer the Rheem at that price point personally. And yes ECM motors are in just about all of them now. Be sure to register whatever you get and get that 10 year parts warranty. I also agree with all of them having issues. and" You can't stop a Trane but when you do it's gonna cost your ass" my grandfather's quote I always laughed at. Good luck with your new system.

Pretty well the only brands that I know are largely made in USA are Trane/American Standard and Carrier/ Bryant.

As far as Carrier/Bryant goes..Heat pumps and condensing units are made at the Colliersville,Tenn., facility. Residential and commercial condensing and package units come from Tyler,Texas. The Charlotte, N.C., plant produces accessories and chillers. Carrier’s headquarters is in Farmington, Conn. They have 67 manufacturing facilities around the world.

Goodman = builder grade, poor after install support.
Carrier = good name recognition and support. Poor fit and finish.
Trane = excellent name due to excessive advertising, great fit and finish. Poor parts availability (in my area)
Rheem = good name, excellent fit and finish, great support, fairly priced.
