Going from past experiences , I've fished from the dam on the lower end and up north till it turned into more river like hitting all the pockets, coves, sloughs and creeks I could in a weekend. I wore the LM out on a chug bug in the mornings , spinnerbaits then plastics. I couldn't catch one danged spotted bass though. I did see them schooling out in the river , attacking pods of shad, blowing them up all over the place , there was two fellows fishing for crappie and when I asked them what was schooling out there like that they said Spotted bass,,, but before could I get to them they were gone just that fast. It seemed the LM were in a early pre-spawn mode.
I went to tackle shop in Wetumpka looking for something new and one feller there told me he and his dad were catching huge Spots just below the dam and upper end of the lake on the deepest diving crankbaits they had. Said if you didn't bump into something down deep you wouldn't get bit. Said if you did hold on.

When they are spawning, shakey head shooting docks / structure and sea walls off the main channel. Dark colored trick worms medium length. Go early and as the day heats up transition to the north end and work points. New lake area is typically better for largemouth, there’s a lot of grass over that way. If you are referring to the new lake at Jordan there is no grass in it now. At least that the way it appeared a few weeks ago

Come summer it’s usually loaded.

Unfortunate from a fishing perspective.

The area above Walter Bouldin dam. Thanks, I thought that must be it, but that dam ain't exactly what I would call new. I guess it's just a local name.

Well they dug the canal off the main river and formed the new lake. It’s not new but I guess it is compared to the main river that goes to Jordan dam.

The new lake had a non-native species of grass in it and it was chocked down. You defiantly could not swim or get your boat out if you had a place on new lake. But bass fishermen could get in no problemo
