I call it , "smart people doing stupid s**t." The northern 1/3 of the state having deer season extended into Feb. comes to mind.

At least with the February extension, I can understand how complicated that would be trying to satisfy all the little pockets of late rut scattered around north bama. With turkeys, it’s as simple as drawing a line across the state at Montgomery.

There's no law saying a dot comprising less than 1% of the whole of NA gets to dictate the whole area. The season extension was way more than hunting the rut. But you do have a point, the current regime can't handle simple , they sure don't need complicated.

Half the turkeys I killed was in the afternoon. Heard the first gobble at 3:30 and killed him at 6:15. Them gobbling in the afternoon will put a tickle in your pickle.

The CB has several more meetings before changes take place. Someone needs to put together a plan that will put pressure on the board to correct all this and send it out and let us know how we can help in the plan to change minds. We need to identify those on the board that voted for changes and target them. Like in everything else in politics, enough pressure will make things happen. We need to put action into our feelings. Let's get it done with the time we have. A thousand postings will not change anything, but action will

Passed few years it's painfully obvious they don't need data to make changes , credible data would just get in the way.

I can’t imagine the pressure the birds in the south would take if it opened before the north.

Very little public land here. Club dominated. Wouldn’t change much at all.

Every time these discussions happen, it’s apparent a lot of hunters don’t understand different dynamics across the state, area to area, mostly south to north difference. I get that if you don’t travel much or only lived in one place your whole life. But the CAB members and the director should dang well understand it. It’s embarrassing really.

I guess it would depend on where the line was drawn. I can’t think of several WMA that would surely fall in the southern zone.

South of Hwy 80 would be very, very few. And they can set those WMA dates to start later to offset that - already do.

I've never hunted them in the fall, but from everything I've read about it, I don't think I would care anything for it. The way turkeys act in the spring is 99% of what makes them so fun to hunt.

The whole premise of the late start is one man’s opinion that killing dominant birds before they breed is hurting nest success. If they were really concerned about the dominant birds they would outlaw Jake & strutter decoys. Problem solved & no need to change dates or limits.
