Certainly not trying to be an arse and do an “I told you so” kind of post, but wondering if anyone is now regretting not rolling their own when they had a chance? I’m getting ready to roll up some 1 5/8 oz 20 gauge loads I will have about $4.50 each in and it makes me cringe to see guys scrapping to get their hands on shells for $9-$10 each. Granted, we dont shoot many of em in the grand scheme so probably still not a big deal yet on the turkey ammo front, but buying ammo as a whole is a dadgum sad joke right now!!!! Just curious what folks who live for this turkey thing like me are thinking.

I haven’t had to buy any this year. Not yet anyway. I bought a few extra boxes when I started using a 20 gauge to chase turkeys with a couple years ago. However, when or if things settle back down I will start rolling my own. Loading ammo (shotgun and rifle) is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile and hopefully will be able to before long.

I have the supplies, and have had for a while, but I bought when the prices were kinda high for the TSS, so my shells aren't coming out as cheaply as $4.50.
I've used the TSS and killed turkeys with it.

But I'm still shooting the HEvi 13s I have, as they do so well out of my gun out to 40 yards.

I don't have many long shots, and would probably pass on them, even if having the TSS.
However, I don't get out of Bama either. If I was going to Texas, etc. Yes, I'd be using the TSS.

$4.50 each that's an extremely good price. I have over $5 in just my shot for the same load.

Same here.

And no, I don't regret it.

I have the means to roll my own and I bought factory shells about a month ago. As long as I can buy factory shells for within $1/Rd of my own, I'll buy factory.

I’m rolling my own and having trouble finding components (hulls and wads) for two favorite loads.

Most every turkey hunter I know has more store bought shells than will be shot in 3 seasons and not everyone reloads or wants too
I’m with Boff on this
I have tss to load but have plenty of hevishot to load too and it kills them just fine

Have any of you ever shot the browning TSS. It is not rolled like the Federal. I bought them for my son’s 20 gauge. I’ve never shot TSS out of my 12 but got some Browning’s because they where $27 a box. The 20’s were almost 40.00

I bought enough TSS back when it was $24 a lb. actually bought so much the guy was selling out and got it for $21. If I’d known I’d bought him all out.

I been loading some today! I never figured the price up but it’s gotta be cheaper than buying it and I enjoy fooling with it! I’ve got enough components to last me a while so hopefully I don’t have to buy the factory stuff.

I’ll start loading my own at some point but I’m not to worried about it. I can still kill a turkey with lead if need be 😀

I bought a bunch of it for $24 back then and then wasted most of it shooting paper. What was I thinking?

The cost of TSS turkey loads is mostly in the shot. The rest of the components will be under 50 cents a shell.

Im sure the factory stuff is just as good. I just really enjoy loading my own shells and bullets. I cant remember when I bought shotgun or rifle shells commercially. If I can just find a jug of lil gun powder I should be good the rest of my life.

I’ve never shot TSS. I’ve missed more turkey under 20 than over. But I would like to load my own, whether led or TSS.
Just now got into reloading rifle rounds and sonofa it was a hard time to start.

If I could find a commercial source for the loads my son and I shoot, I would be willing to pay $9-10/shell for them. I like shooting turkeys with them, I don't much care for the loading part.
Plus by the time you figure in the opportunity cost ... loading your own may not be so cheap. I guess, to a point, I would rather spend money to have the time versus spending time to save $100-200.

If I'd have gotten shot for $21-$24/lb, I'd never buy another factory round

I agree with this and the fact that I’ve never been one to just go shoot paper at a range...with any gun. So reloading doesn’t interest me.

Someone (prolly in this post) talked about weighing factory rounds, having a tolerance. Where he knows exactly
what is in his hand loads. That’s what would make me want to load my own.
I’m not a big paper guy either, but after I do all my homework and cross 2 property lines
Without getting busted I don’t want to miss 😁

In the grand scheme of things, $10 per shot is a drop in the bucket. I’m just ready to hear one gobble
