My daughter runs XC and track. She wears Saucony because they have the shoe that fits her. Other runners on the team wear whatever brand fits them. Do you need a support shoe or maybe for over pronation? Need to go somewhere and find out what style shoe to fit your foot. I recommend Saucony, hold up well to the every day beating she gives them. I do get her a new pair about every 500 miles, which comes around pretty quick.

If I was a runner I’d get the Tony Lama of the running shoe. Never go cheap for your feet.

Got get fitted at a running store. I run about 16 miles a week and had Nike’s, Brooks, and settled on Saucony’s only after a professional analysis. Doesnt really matter what brand you get they just need to fit you feet and running style.

I run early in the morning, and never really did any stretching either, and that was also recommended to me at the shoe store. I use a foam roller on my calves, a frozen water bottle on my feet, static calf and hamstring stretching, and lunges before I run now.

Also make sure your daily shoes fit properly as well especially if you wear boots daily.

Haven’t read all the comments, but heard them goofy looking shoes that fit each toe are comfortable. Just can’t get over how they look. But custom insoles are probably the best way to go.

Altra or Hoka

Best pair of running shoes I’ve ever owned were made by Pearl iZumi but they stopped making running shoes.

Concur on the Pearls ... hated it when they got out of the running shoe biz. Currently alternating between Brooks Ghost and Topo Ultrafly.

Also agree with finding a running store if you don't know what you want.

My wife thought there was nothing other than Pearls. She hated to see them go. I always associate them with Newtons, seemed like very similar companies.

I used to run a lot And I think my favorite shoes were new balance. If it weren’t for bad knees that still run a lot but those shoes held up well and I still have them today

After running 3-5 times a week in the Army I have tried all of them. I would recommend any of the ones below.
Hoka one
Altra
Brooks

Don’t let the thick soles of the Hoka fool you their like walking/running on clouds

I've been using altra for the past year. They are a bit different because they are zero drop. It's a bit of a different running impact and took me a month or two to get used to it. Some probably don't have that issue in switching, but I certainly did.

Go the Fleet Feet or similar place and let them find shoes that fit your foot and shoes that balance your stance. It doesn't matter what shoes other people like, get what corrects and balances your foot and stance.

Solid advice! I didn’t know there was a fleet feet in Alabama, I assumed it was local here in NC since it was family owned.

I am not a runner but have worn New Balance 990's for many years because I need support. I had foot surgery in October and the surgeon recommended Hoka BONDI 7. This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn and I get the same support as the 990's.

Yep, a running store will definitely fit your feet, they have the technology to take you where you have never been taken before. I have sent my wife and several friends to a running store, because they have feet or ankle problems. The one here in Montgomery is pretty good, and they have all been helped. .

I like Saucony.

Go to a running store have your feet analyzed, it'll make all the difference in the world.
