Thinking about a newer to me truck. Seems theres 3 motor choices. A 2.7L turbo v6, a 3.5 v6 (have one in a ‘13 with no issues) and 5.0 v8. Have had before and like. Pro’s n con’s between the smaller turbo’s and the 5.0?
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I've got a 2014 with the 5.0 and it seems to be a strong and reliable motor by all accounts I've read. I think all 3 are pretty good but the 5.0 is a slight step above all of them in regards to reliability

I think all 3 are pretty good but the 5.0 is a slight step above all of them in regards to reliability The 5.0 is the new version of the 302ci ford standby. Like i said, we have a ‘13 with the 3.5 and the way it pulls our boat is impressive. This could be my last truck purchase ever, so im looking for something i can drive the wheels off of.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I need to look up the power/torque curve on the 5.0. My 5.4 sucks for towing modest loads.

If I was getting one for a daily driver, I’d get the 2.7. I had one in a work truck and put over 100k miles on it and never had a lick of trouble. It was plenty strong and got about 22-23 mpg.
I’ve got an Expedition with the 3.5 That thing will haul the mail and I can get 20mpg if I stay out of the pedal.

So the torque curves for the 5.4 show slightly better low end torque than the 5.0.
That's not encouraging.
I guess I'll get the 3.5. 420lbs at 2500 rpm is hard to beat.

I have a 2015 5.0 4x4. No issues at all. Stomp on it and it will smoke the tires. I think I have 86000 miles on it so far and gas mileage average over the life of the truck is 18.2. Not bad for a lead foot. It will get 21 MPG going 70 with cruise control. It has 20 inch wheels and I think 3.31 rear end and 6 speed transmission. If I was going to tow a large percentage of the time I would look for one with the 3.55 or 3.73 rear end. Mine tows my pontoon boat well but needs to be in 5th gear most of the time unless the road is level then it cruises in 6th easily. It's been a great truck and would buy another in a heartbeat. The 302 has been around for many years.

My 5.0 will smoke my old 5.4 in any category you could think of. There might be some data floating on the net somewhere saying what you mentioned but in the real world the 5.0 kicks the 5.4L tail all day.

I bought my wife a 2011 f150 in 2013, 5.0 with around 25k on it. That rascal has used oil since the day I bought it, around 2 quarts between oil changes.Between that & the fact it eats front brakes has really turned me against Ford. The oil usage seem to be a 2011-5.0 problem & Ford wouldn’t do anything about it. I too want to buy a retirement truck in a few years but I’m really undecided which brand to buy.
