I was looking through some of the replies to the Weiss Lake thread I posted a few days ago. I'm from down here in Southwest Alabama/NW Florida so I don't know too much about NE Alabama. Irishguy replied with some helpful info, thank you sir. And others as well.
Irishguy's location is Lickskillet, AL. I had to Google Map it to see. What's funny is when the map pulls up on a regular desktop computer, it has everything you need... a taxidermist, mechanic shop, hiking trails, a nature preserve, a church, and a DJ service. I just thought it was funny.
Listening to John Boy and Billy on the way to work this morning in one of the skits, I think it was Reverend Billy talking, said a speaker who was visiting the church was from Hog Nut, Alabama.(made up town of course). There are some funny names in Alabama. Really across the nation. I thought Lickskillett sounds kinda cool to be honest. Interesting about some of the town names and history.

Arkansas puts every other state to shame in the "weird town names" contest.....Toad Suck, Greasy Corner, Weiner.........................my favorite though is "Fifty-Six, AR". They literally were so unimaginative that they just numbered the town, but decided to spell it out instead of using numerals...

I've always wondered about the whole Guin/Gu-win thing....why that came about, and are they both pronounced the same? I always pronounce Guin like it rhymes with the name "Ewen", but I catch myself pronouncing Gu-win like "gyoo-WIN"...

There's Palmerdale and it's sister town Remlap (Palmer spelled backwards.)
There's Guin and then down the road there's Gu-Win.
I think both of those instances were brought about by a feud of some sorts. Gu-Win is between Guin and Winfield

I've hunted near Brooklyn. Couldn't find a doggone bagel and lox to save my life.

And it's not just Hollywood , it's The Real Hollywood, oldest of all the towns with that name in the U.S. Lots of good players come from that way too
