Does anyone have any experience with the F-150 with the diesel? I drive about 30-40k miles a year so want the ride and fuel economy of a 1/2 ton, but I pull my tractor regularly (fully loaded around 9k lbs). I know a few people who rave about them, but want more opinions. I’ve always been a GM guy, but the are getting left in the dust on 1/2 ton trucks IMO.

Not the same as you are asking but I’ll thow this out there. New diesels have so much EPA crap that they are designed to fail. The EGR and DPF systems are the primary culprits. They need to be worked so the regen can heat up and run to burn off the soot. Driving the amount you do sure should take care of it as it requires longer distance trips at highway speeds. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel that I tuned the EGR off. Never had any issues so far but the EPA took FCA to the woodshed a couple times and forced some updates to the original ECM. My mileage fell considerably. Until I put my tuned ECM back in, raising the mpg from 21 to 25. Given the extra maintenance and cost of diesel I’m not sure its worth it over a gasser but time will tell for these baby diesels. Towing capacity isn’t a big difference over the gassers in the 1/2 ton range either. My truck pulled my trailer with Kubota L3301 easily but guessing a newer gas engine would have as well.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I would be doing a full delete on the truck if I decide to go this route. I am up in the air now between the diesel and Eco Boost. I like the thought of a diesel for longevity with the amount of miles I drive.

I have a 2019 eco boost it is the smaller eco boost I have a z520 ranger bass boat and when i hook it to it there is a huge difference in gas milage. It gets about 15 around town and about 16.5 on a trip. With the boat hooked up and on the interstate it gets 8.5-9.0. My brother in law has the 5.0 in the same truck and he gets 18-19 in town and over 20 on the road both are 4 wheel drive.

My neighbor had a 19 f150 diesel. It was leaking all over by 50k miles. He traded it for a 3/4ton dodge a few weeks ago.

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra half ton diesel. Great engine and I drive a lot more than you do. Maintenance is a little more expensive but I'm enjoying the truck.

Do you ever pull with yours? I looked at these but got scared off by the 9,100 towing capacity. Kind of defeated the purpose for what I need.

I have the same engine. I pulled home my 50 hp kubota from Catherine to Foley. Was very impressed with the engine.

I have a 2021 1/2 ton gmc duramax. Rolled 13k today had it since first of Nov. it is stout so far. Pulls a trailer much better than the 5.3 gas I had before.

Yea but if the SHTF I can run farm diesel or kerosene in mine. When gas is your only means you at the mercy of the pump.

It may be. But a diesel motor can run it if need be. Wouldn’t highly recommend it. But end of times I’d try it. I know a plane can fly on it anyway

The F 150 Diesel has plenty of power to pull what you want to but remember it is suspended for ride quality not heavy towing.
