I spent 4k on a transmission for my 15 Sierra last month. Never again. Next truck will be a Tundra.

I just checked the Tundra website. For a 2021, they “claim” 13 mpg and 17 highway. Obviously those numbers are fake, so you’ll probably average 13 overall. That’s rough.

So, what is the problem? The 4l80s are very solid as have been the 6l80s. The 4l60s lasted if you kept the heat off of them. The ones with small or non-existent coolers had more issues.

I have been leary of these new 6, 8, and 10 speed transmissions. It just seems like a lot more heat to deal with. Is that the problem or the components?

For the record my wife's 6l65 seems to be fine too.

None that I'm aware of other than averaging about 14mpg. I'd rather spend money at the pump on a truck that won't leave me stranded than spend it sitting in a mechanic's bay.

My 2014 tundra gets 14-15mpg city or hwy. I am glad I bought it after some of these stories, it has been a solid truck and I’d buy another tomorrow if I had it to do all over again.

2022 Tundra has the new twin turbo V6 and is suppose to get in the low 20s per gallon. I have never had a problem with or no anybody that has ever had a problem with a Toyota period. They are head and shoulders above this shucks GM is putting out there. The mechanic told me GM knows the problem and remedy to fix the transmissions but continue to put this shucks out there. When mine started messing up at the hunting club another member told me his company has replaced 4 out of 5 transmissions on 2017 and 2018 Silverados. If you have one you are more than likely going to have a problem with the transmission

That sucks, but on a positive note, be glad its not one of the Allisons, they’re north of 10k to rebuilt

Replaced the allison in my 2500hd with a new one for half that price about 5 years ago, with 100.000 warranty from the dealer. At the time rebuilt was around $3500 and 3000 miles

I swore off Government Motors back in 2002. After loosing $35,000 on 2 of the POS in 4 years. Bought a new 98 GMC pickup. Before it had 70,000 miles the alternator, water pump, hood latch and transmission all broke and went out. Bought the wife a new Buick in 2000. It had 7,000 miles on it when it started knocking. We took it back to dealer and they told us it was a known problem in that V6 engine. They said they would have to replace 3 pistons that were slapping. I told them I wanted a new engine not a rebuilt one in a 6 month old vehicle. They said tough shucks, call GM. So I did and they told me basically the same thing. Warranty says they have the choice to repair or replace. So they replaced the pistons and guess what it was knocking again by 20,000 miles. This time they said they had found that they would go 100,000 miles knocking so pound sand. Well another year rolls by with little crap happing like the glove box lid falling off into the floor board among other crap. Then about 36,200 miles we are head home from her mothers and go to take off from a red light and the transmission goes out. GM refuses to cover it because it is 200 miles out of warranty. 3 years 36,000 miles. Paid about $2500 to have it rebuilt and took it to a Nissan dealer and 2 Toyota dealers and none of them wanted to take it as a trade in, remember motor is still knocking. finally managed to just sell it for $8,000 to just get rid of it. So we wound up paying about $20K to drive that POC 36,000 miles. Sold the POC truck also, went to Toyota's and since then we have driven Toyota's close to a Million miles and have only replaced a water pump and a starter. Both on the Tundra I am now driving with 210,000 miles on it.

Mine went in my 2011 at 163k, I bought a replacement at rock auto 3 year warranty for $2300 and had it installed by my local mechanic for $500 and &125 for programming at the dealership. Not great but about half what dealership wanted.

Hard to get rid of it when it’s paid for and been a good truck so far

Im just speaking from experience. get rid of it while you can get something for it. I had all kind of issues with mine, and know of two more trucks that the tranny blew up @ under 80k

I have the same crap transmission in my 2017 Chevy Silverado Z71. They did the new fluid, filter double flush about 10k miles ago and it is back to the "full Shudder" you read about. replaced one ball joint, second one coming- I can feel it. EBS brakes are awful, spongy, and don't feel safe. Wont have another 1/2 ton of any make.

THAT SAID- do the GM 2500's, F250's suffer these same issues? never had one. Diesel or Gas burner make a difference?
thanks-
