Boils down to pure jealousy on behalf of the arsonist.....may they be caught and spend many years getting to think about it

If proven, I wouldn't be opposed to the arsonist getting the death penalty.

Bad situation but really not unexpected. Not a good idea to leave anything that you hold of value in an isolated area 3 hours from where you live. I bet half the people reading this do. I’m not toting a tractor to and from home every time I need it.

You weight the risk, take action accordingly, and pay big insurance premiums for the comfort.

Very sad, but that’s why I still don’t own hunting property. We found a cabin and some property for sale once up in northwest Alabama that the wife fell in love with. We looked at it for a while but ultimately decided it was too far from our home to keep a check on it.

I had a cabin on the Tennessee River at Crooked Creek and this was always my fear. Perry Co. TN. Kept it for 16 years before tornados prompted me to leave, miss the good times, but, now I don't have to drive an hour and a half to mow and burn leaves.

I hate that fella lost all his memories inside that cabin. We had the same thing happen in Hale Co about 1980. I hate an arsonist.
I caught a poacher on a place I had years ago. He told me " you know this place could burn to the ground" in an attempt to intimidate me. I told him if it did I would light his house on fire with him in it. He immediately crawfished and said he wasn't saying he would burn my place. I told him to be a man and stand behind what he said because I damn sure was going to.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

There is some rough characters in that part of the country. I've done quite a bit of turkey hunting in Shannon County. Beautiful country and good hunting but a lot of lawless, sorry people roaming those woods. No doubt some rough people and no excuses for the arson, however Butler blaming everyone in the community is pretty crappy too. The rich people from the I-70 corridor waltz in and don't understand the history or how to interact with those who have lived in the area. There is a ton of history about land seizures that have made many locals resistant to authority (and rightly so). Many of their family farms were taken from them in the late 1960s to create the public land "everybody enjoys." The national scenic riverways were not voluntary sold. While the feds promised locals continued use of the resources to ease tensions they have gone back on many of those promises. In the Meramec river valley (1970s) the lands of locals were taken to build a lake. When the lake project was cancelled the land was sold to the highest bidders (not the original owners) who were mostly urban. You can bet the areas most of these people and their grandparents were raised on and hunted on were posted overnight. Echo park was a property the govt had wanted for years. The owner had parties there and the feds busted it for drugs and seized his land. Guess who ended up with it. Yep, new state park! My guess is Mr. Butler didn't make many friends upon moving to the area especially considering his comments about blaming the whole culture. While I'll say again nobody deserves to have property.destroyed I'm not sure he played his cards right or still.understands what the underlying issues are.
