Do any of y'all have any of these books? My father in law and I where talking about them around Thanksgiving and he gave me the first edition as a Christmas gift . If you are interested in self sufficiency and story's about Appalachian folk you should check it out.

They are often on eBay. Worth having

Anybody get sucked into buying The Lost Ways book that gets advertised on the internet? If so was it worth buying?

Have all but 1 or 2 of them. Loved reading them as a teenager so bought several to have and read now.

I"ve had all of them for many years. I'm too lazy to look right now but one of them details pottery making. Elliot Wigginton brought some of the students here to Chilton county many years ago to interview a guy that made pottery on HW 183. "Wig" as the students called him was the english teacher that got it all started. Aunt Arie Carpenter is probably the most interviewed & read about person in the whole series & I always liked reading what she had to say-wish there was a lot more like her still around. The folks that started these books around north georgia & north carolina are really proud of the history of all of it. One thing you won't hear any of them talk about is that Elliot Wigginton is a pedophile. He was convicted some years back, served time & as far as I know now lives in florida-sad.

I've got quite a few of them somewhere. Really enjoyed them and always wanted to try some of the stuff but never had time back then. I guess now that I'm retired I should look back through them, if I can still find them.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

As a kid the city library had them and I would check them out. One book told how to tan hides and I did several squirrel hides using the directions from the foxfire book. I was maybe 12 or 13.

I have the first three. I just finished reading the first one again. I just posted something the other day from the one I was reading about spider bite cure.

In a lot of parts, they quote the old mountain people verbatim and a lot of that is hard to read when you are use to reading the English Language vs Appalachian Language. Hearing it and understanding it is one thing, but reading it phonetically can be a challenge.

Have all of them, plus some of the magazines. It was our intent to take my parents to the museum this past summer. Covid put an end to those plans.

Have the set as my grandmother grew up in Murphy NC. Very good books
and a very tough life living in the mountains.

There were still a lot of folks that lived that way when we lived there in the 70’s. One of the guys we hunted on had no electricity, heated and cooked with wood, and drew his water from his well. Was well known for growing potatoes. Used them to barter for a lot of necessary items. Had a garden and helped folks with their tobacco crops. And you really had to be going to his house to get there.
