I agree with you.......So what if we get to the end of the season and the total number of deer reported killed is about the same as the previous years? It should go up if compliance was that low....

“It’s laziness,” Sykes said. “About 15 percent of them are wearing tinfoil hats and looking for black helicopters. But the rest of them just don’t want to do it.”

Chuckie is basing his numbers off reported deer. What Chuckie don't want to admit is that the deer population is way lower than all his folks think it is. I guess I get counted in the number of hunters each year because I have a lifetime license. I quit hunting 3 years ago because my son was bored out of his gourd because we weren't seeing any deer. I use to see deer a good bit, so I either became a worse hunter the longer I hunted, or the deer population decreased. Good thing we still have fish to catch.

"only 10 deer were reported and we know thats only 45% of the number that was killed". So if you know the answer why ask the question?

Just an FYI, that article is over 2 years old. It’s not recent. This years GC numbers have already exceeded that of the entire season last year. With the rut just beginning or still a few weeks out for 2/3 of the state that number is going to blow last years harvest out of the water.

Hunting just shouldn’t be this complicated. I’m sick of game check and I’ve haven’t killed a deer in this state since it was implemented. I understand what DCNR is trying to do but there has to be a better way of doing it.

All this reporting has really gone over the top! Processors or taxidermist shouldn't be involved in the process they should be worried about processing deer and mounting deer that's it. Logging a deer before you move it, who comes up with this stuff? If I do decide to shoot one I should be worried about how fast I can get it to the processor to prevent spoilage not pulling out my phone to log a deer.

Matt,

You are correct. I did not see the date when I first saw the article tonight on FB. I just copied the link and posted it here. After reopening the link I saw the date. Nevertheless, I had never seen the article until tonight so I'm sure there are others that had never seen it as well.

I would hope that the compliance numbers would be a little better now, two years beyond the article.

At least we are not to the same point as some states where they issue physical tags (it's not paper but material like mattress tags) like so,e states do. I watch the hunting public on YouTube and I would say 95% of the deer they shoot they are notching out tag in for to put on the deer. When we get to that point, that's when I would get worried.

Wish I was poor enough to do out of state hunts for 20 years.

8 letter word. Starts with a D and ends with a D. The letters in between are ICKHEA. That’s what Chuckie boy is.

I hate any government entity giving me orders on what to do on my own land because they certainly did nothing to help me work and buy it but I am still going to report the deer I kill. It’s really easy and I think it going to prove that there are not nearly as many deer killed as the state has always claimed and I really believe the kills are getting fewer every year. Sure there are places with too many deer but overall I really don’t think the popish as high as the state claims. February hunting in north Alabama is crazy and I now it’s a choice to go but lots of people are going to go as long as the season is open. I don’t like chuck sykes condescending attitude either for what that’s worth.

I read it. It's an old article but does give you an idea where things will go. How many alabama hunters go out of state to hunt? Is restricting our hunters with unnecessary game laws a way to keep out of state hunters from flooding our woods? As I sit here typing I'm watching a video of a Michigan elk hunt. They called the kill in and hung a tag in the tree above the kill. The guide also said he was going to put a tag out at the road. Now the warden is showing up. Nah, we dont need that. Course they could be hunting a public area but still.

He does give the impression that land owners and seniors will be pressed on a little harder in the future. Forcing processors and taxidermist to only take animals with a check list numbers is a beginning step on tougher laws. If the numbers are closer to accurate than not, then I wouldnt be surprised to see a season change. They could start checking for license numbers if you purchase a skinning knife, bramble or processing equipment.
