Landowner is ultimately liable.

A 16’ cattle gate is just over $100

I could swear I paid $84 for mine. Cheap and easy.

Thats going to walk through 95 percent or higher of all gates. At least with that setup you would know if someone went in and out. Cattle gates I can go in and out with a couple of adjustable wrenches and not leave any evidence of entry at the gate.

Nothing will stop the determined trespasser. But a well disguised spike strip will discourage repeat offenders.

I'd know if you went through mine , unless your truck can levitate.

You’re right, but as often as not it’ll trigger costly retaliation. The kind that keeps on giving while the lowlife goes elsewhere.

And how exactly is a “proper gate” immune from a cordless grinder?

A pipe gate with a heavy lock guard is immune to the grinder and bolt cutters
But it's also expensive and labor intensive.

Back in the day my great uncle and my grandfather would have rendered your truck inoperable after cutting one of their gates.

What happened, the men folk in your family born without balls after your great uncle?

Drive through my gate and find out....

You don’t need 35 feet, you need 14. Plenty enough if the gate is placed correctly. A lot of landowners are getting away from cables due to liability issues with accidents. I look after a land base with roughly 2k gates. Gate management is a big issue. Most of ours are pipe gates. But for economic gates, take a 10 feet gate from tractor supply and rip it in half. Easy to handle, install, and adjust width of opening.

Both correct. I was a member of a club that one night a drunk on a 4 wheeler who was where he wasnt supposed to be on posted land hit a cable gate they had. Flipped and broke his neck. Family sued. Dont know the outcome of it.

I understand, but the timber company is who installed the cables on my lease.

A cable through a piece of 4" pvc sewer pipe is every bit as visible as a pipe gate. Use 6" pvc if you are really paranoid. Just running a half inch cable across a road can indeed be dangerous, but the pvc takes care of that. I've never seen any reason to paint the pvc; the white color shows up about as well as anything.

The determined trespasser can get through most anything, but a cable is better than nothing.
