I think the short action cartridge versions have a bolt stop so the length of travel isn't a factor anyway. I might be wrong but pretty sure it doesn't allow bolt all the way out to long action length You are correct, short action calibers have a different bolt stop than the long action calibers.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

I'm not going to knock Tikka rifles. They do what a gun is supposed to do. They are typically accurate, reliable and will kill critters if the dufus with his booger picker on the trigger does his job...
But, meh.
I hate cheap plastic injection molded stocks.
Modern, contemporary styling, meh...
Remingtons with a nice stock are good...once you put a new trigger on them.
Savage rifles, hell naw.
Winchester M70 guns are sweet, but the new MOA trigger is a POS compared to the old ones which worked great for 80 years.
Ruger makes a good gun, have a couple M77 guns.
Everybody loves Brownings...meh
Mausers are still the guns all others want to be.
I'm an old fart traditionalist so take this info for what it's worth.

Dollar for dollar tikka outperforms all others imo. And they do offer beautiful WOOD stocks from the factory!
Right and wrong will never change---only people's perception!

Aside from the sharp edges on a Ruger American stock if someone can explain to me how or why a Tikka is any better I'd love to hear it.
It's another cheap gun that actually costs a lot more than it should. But it shoots SOOOO guuuud!
And it's got this Sako barrel in it and........
Whatever. That ship has sailed.
Tikka rifles are prime examples of all of the cost cutting measures, shortcuts and reductions in quality that have become the industry standard of todays mass produced and cheaply built bolt action rifles.
Tell me they aren't. You can't.
If you like it that's fine I like a Steyr myself which is similar but some people don't like the stock. To each their own but nowhere in the discussion is there room for "they are more accurate" or "better" in any way shape of form than several other available options.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I have been a Browning man ALL my life. Killed my first deer with an A5 and probably killed 250 or more with a BAR. I lost count when I turned about 40 years old many years ago! I heard a lot of hype about Tikkas so I bought one in 7mm-08 from a member on here a few years ago. I flat out loved it! I found another one in a different caliber that I thought was priced below value so I bought it. Then I bought a 270 last year that is my current go to rifle. That gun has almost no recoil when fired. I have never felt anything like it before, it just don't have a recoil! It has unbelievable accuracy with "cheap Core-Lokts" and has never given me anything but a super smooth cycle when bolted.
If something isn't broke, don't try to fix it. These guns make me a lot better of a shot than I am.
Tikka Man and proud of it. A famous quote from the 70's-"Try it, you'll like it".

All I can do is list my personal experience. I have shot the T3 I own and at least 3 others owned by friends. I also have a Browning A-Bolt II, a Ruger Model 77, a Remington model 700, a Smith & Wesson 243, and a long list of others that I don't feel like completely typing out. But last time I counted it was 38 guns most of which are rifles with the exception of 3 shotguns and 3 pistols. I have also spent many a day at the range with friends who owned rifles of just about every common type available. My experience is that I have not seen another brand of rifle "IN THIS PRICE RANGE" that is as consistently accurate with factory ammo as a Tikka. Your milage may vary. The Finns are an odd stand offish lot but they can flat make a f#*@ing gun barrel. They also don't put a lawyer trigger on their rifles either.

I prefer the Tikka trigger over the Ruger American, but I own 2 Americans, and no Tikkas. Timney make better triggers than both of them. I can almost buy 2 Americans for the cost of a new T3x. I've only had mag issues in one American years ago, and I've had a bunch of them

Couple problems with my son's Ruger american.one the stock is very narrow and rounded on bottom.sux alot for a steady shot off anything but your hand.two it's horrible to rust.oh yeah three it's the roughest cut barrel of anything I've ever owned fouling sticks in barrel horrible.i know every one likes them but I'm not impressed with rough barrel inside and out and medicore accuracy I'd trade it for about anything if my son gave blessing which we might upgrade to something quality when he gets settled down in military.
Now reason I bought it my buddies Ruger american shot good as my Tikka so I thought I'd buy a boy a cheap rifle that shot good.yeah right there's a reason it's considered a economy hunting rifle.rugers quality isn't what it was you don't find Tikka rifles that don't shoot well.finns don't play with quality
Now I will add I have a Ruger skeleton stock m77 with timney trigger that will shoot as good as anything you can buy regardless of price but it's a 1997 model rifle shoots one hole groups on the hottest summer day with no problem
