I hear people talking about taking deer 50-75 yards with crossbows. Are they that accurate? How many of y'all do it? I've always shot compounds and rarely shot over 40 yards.

People probably trying it but no way I’d shoot at one over 40, too much can go wrong and not worth the risk to me. I feel the same way about trying to shoot a turkey over 50 yards

I shoot a Xbow and it’s sighted in out to 60 yds and is very accurate but 40 yds is my cut off point on deer...just too many things to go wrong beyond that and I do not want to make a bad shot and the deer suffer and me not recover it

Thinking it's people who never have hunted with a traditional or compound talking

With a good rest it is not a problem out to 50-60 for me. Free hand I wont shoot over 20. I have an older xbow but it's way to heavy and unbalanced for free hand shots.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I was comfortable going out to 50 when I owned one, but I don’t think anything beyond that is a good idea.

I worked on one for a friend last night. Took it back to him today to sight in.

It’s amazing how accurate they are with zero practice.

They are extremely accurate but deer can hear them Go off and if you are down near the target at 50+yards you can really hear the arrows coming and have time to react at the longer distances

I couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat, but I would think deer reaction would play a bigger role no matter how accurate the shot. Maybe I’m wrong.

I would guess they are that accurate, but that doesn't mean the deer won't react or there won't be limbs in the way.

On a compound bow, what factors in to messing up accuracy? Anchor point being slightly different, how hard your squeezing the bow, if you wore a mask and you don't when you practice, if your eye isn't lined up through the peep site like "normal"...etc...

a crossbow gets rid of all of that with a scope.

Shot a doe at 45-50 yards a few weeks ago with my Ravin. I can and will shoot further with confidence.

I shoot a recurve but even with a crossbow or compound..there's a lot that can happen from the time you shoot until the arrow/bolt hits the deer.

They are absolutely accurate at very long distance. I would personally never take a shot over 40-45 because the arrow is moving slower than the speed of sound and at those distances it gives the deer a LOT of time to hear the shot and move out of the way.

I started with a recurve, moved to a takedown, moved to a series of wheel bows and now shoot a crossbow. I have had two crossbows, a reverse limb barnett vengeance and a standard limb centerpoint patriot 415. The vengeance groups about 3 inches at 100 yards and the centerpoint is easily half that.

Not sure what range I would shoot at as I've never taken a shot past 40 yards. The accuracy is there, no doubt about it. Other factors will probably limit my shots.

My Barnett ts380 can group tight enough to touch arrows at 70. The fifth crosshair is dead on at 90, can shoot 3-4” groups that far out. Wouldn’t want to shoot at a deer past 65 though for fear of penetration issues.
