Depending on what you are planting, all season long. If it's wheat we've had to do it a couple times into early/mid November with no issues.

You can plant nearly any time of year in mid to south Alabama. Planting later, like mid to late November, or even December, usually means it will take 2 or 3 weeks for a plot to come up good depending on what the actual weather is. The short days, cold weather, heavy rain, and lack of sunlight all make germination a much longer process than when you plant earlier in the year. But it will come up and grow just fine when it does come up.

When the land I hunted on was farmed the farmer would plant for agricultural purposes around Mid Dec.. We have a food plot in a small corner of one of his big fields. His wheat came up and the deer seemed to prefer his 20 acres or so over our 1 acre or so. I sat in our shooting house one afternoon and quit counting at 70 something because I couldn't keep up with all the coming and going. Of course most were too far to shoot at.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

You can plant in November I have planted as late as Thanksgiving. Honestly I think the deer hit the plots better during January when I really wanted them in the plots because the growth was still young and tender. IMO if you plant too early down south everything comes up then you have some dry weather and it all gets stemmy and tough and the deer don't prefer it. A lot of years we will go back in and top sow some rye grain in the plots when we add a little fertilizer and the deer will show back up.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

In 2015 I planted on December 5th. Didn't plan on that happening, but it grew up just fine.
