I am more scared of ladder stands than any other stand.

Someone else commented about this, but I use the lifeline on all my ladders. loop around the tree above your stand and tie to the bottom rung. I put my hand under the knot and around the ladder on that side and just move the knot as I step. Ladder stands are safer anyway, but I still use the lifeline. To each his own, but it can be done. Good luck guys.

I think hanging the ladder is the most dangerous time.
If it rolls on you, it could be nasty.
Best done with 2 men. One holding you steady at bottom.

On the distance I like to walk to my stands:

Hanging g a ladderstand is simple and safe. Every ladderstand comes with straps that attach to the rear of the seat platform and crisscross behind the tree and tie back to the rungs of the ladder. By having this done and the kicker brace installed before climbing, it can't roll. In absence of those straps, use 12-14ft ratchet straps.

Exactly how I used to hunt before I slowed down on the bow hunting a couple years ago. Sold all my lock ons except for a couple I kept to leave in the duck holes for dogs. Kind of been getting the itch lately to climb a lock on with a bow though.

You can buy a ropeman or put a ring under the prussic knot so the knot will slide up as you climb but not down without having to pull it. The ropeman is technically not designed for a fall with slack in the rope but I would trust it as long as it wasn't much slack.

I have sorta done the same thing but instead of ladders I am just using my Summit climbers more than ever. I still have like 12 lock ons but with a bad knee that is apt to just give way coming up or going down, even with the life lines, I am leaning more and more on my climbers. I have 6 Summits so I will just hang them at my favorite locations and have at it.

Hate to hear that for you TC but it is better to be safe and hang around another day for the family. It is when I have to start hunting from the ground that I am not looking forward to.

that is exactly how I do it and how I now feel about it. My theory was always to make my stand difficult to get in so others wouldn't want to. Now I just pucker my butt and realize I'm not as flexible as I used to be.
