So, I've searched for answers to this and most of the ones online have to do with spraying a crop when it's hot and dry. I'm just trying to kill everything in the plot before planting. As hot and dry as it is, what's the best way to get the most effect? Thanks

Just mix it "hot" and you'll get a good kill.

from years of experience, I can promise you that 3% will blister johsnon grass and your garden variety weeds typical of central bama greenfields. It'll look like a brown desert 2 weeks after spraying. That said 257 is the expert on commercial Ag stuff and it all depends on what you're trying to kill.

That’s correct. Most stuff 3% is golden. But there’s always exceptions

I don't know how much of an impact it truly has on effectiveness but the stomata are open at dusk and dawn and typically close up durimg midday to conserve moisture. Dry weather has a big impact on effectiveness because plant function slows down and the plant stops moving water. In a severe drought type situation your spray may have very little impact

As CNC said, drought will inhibit glyphosate activity on many weed species. Hot days aren’t really the issue, dry conditions are. Hopefully most of us won’t have super dry conditions after the next week or so.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

As our combines hit the field. It’s a mental stretch. We need rain to finish top crop on cotton and later beans. But I’ll be dam we’re in some corn right now. We just bitch. Can’t help it. Rains either too much. Not enough. Sometimes I wonder if I chose a sane path in life.

Yes. Not sure where I said they were the same? My experience 3 ounces per gallon of 41% will kill most your common weeds and grasses.... Should not have said it will kill "anything".

When it is hot and dry the plants develop a heavier wax on their foliage to prevent moisture loss. Put some crop oil in the spray tank and it will help to increase the penetration of the herbicide under these conditions. Cheaper than increasing the rate according to my wallet. YMMV.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I try not to spray gly if we haven’t had a measurable rain event in the last 7 days with 90+ degree heat. It isn’t as effective. Plants have built in mechanisms for self preservation in extreme weather and the ability to not absorb foliar applied herbicides is one of them.

You can add a quality surfactant and be just fine in hot dry wather
