All this rain got me to pondering a saying I have heard for awhile. “A wet summer is good for the deer but bad for the deer hunting”. How many of y’all agree with this saying? If you do, do you change your hunting style up because of it and what do you do differently?

A bad dry summer is definately bad for the health of a deer herd.

I was walking some beans late today. They’re hitting me armpit high. Deer Probly laying all out in them. Cool shade and food. They don’t even have to move

Buddy of mine said deer are like ducks. If they have food and water they aren't moving anywhere.

Wet summer results in more acorns. They deer stay in the woods more and less in the fields/edges because the don’t have to move around much finding acorns.

Just a thought. I may have read this once on the KY F&W department site. I think KY had a lower kill year but a good population

I’ve been seeing a lot of fawns lately. There’s plenty of lush summer vegetation with all the rain we’ve been getting.

Y’all really do have that early rut over in NW Alabama. I figure our deer are a week or 2 from dropping.
Joe4Majors sent me video of Lake Guntersville State Park does. They were about to pop.

I don’t hunt em in the summer, I figure in about In about three months they’ll start doing something different. I’ll check in on em then.

I think that winter has more impact on the deer than the summer, unless the summer is extreme. Of course now with thousands of tons of corn in the woods, the deer have more fat reserve than ever before.

One strong storm at the right time could destroy the acorn crop.
