Exactly, having a place just to go shoot a doe for meat is not worth having to kill some thug over. Tool box incident happened the first year we had it while we were in there with the tractors planting. Nothing for the next few years then the last year was when my cousin's window got busted out. We deemed it at that time to not be worth it. That and the last year was the same fall that Shane was murdered over there and anytime someone went in to hunt it, they took both their deer rifle and an AR with them. Just not worth the hassle for 40 acre piece of "shooter land" when we have 1400 managed on the other side of the river with no problems.

Me and a buddy have had hunting rights on 200 acres in that general area for about 5yrs. Over the first few years we tried to plant plots and get it established, but after dealing with all the trespassing and night hunters we finally gave up. Just was not worth the effort and the locals were getting a LOT more benefit out of it than we were. It was a common occurrence to find sign from where they would come in at night and hunt the patches. Heck we even caught one on a night out of season while riding four wheelers. Rolled up on a patch to enjoy a cold snack and caught a whiff of what smelled like a swisher coming from the shooting house that was up ahead of us. Wasn't a chance in hell I was about to put myself in that situation after hearing all the stories from the other local hunters from the area.

I had 420 acres off of CR1 for a few years.

Year #1 I had the power pole stolen... turned out it was the guy who leased deer rights from the previous lease holder & wasn't told he wouldn't be renewed until he came and found a new lock. No hard feelings, he just got what was his.

Year #2 I had a trail cam stolen that wasn't far from the property line and on a road that loggers travelled. My fault.

Year #3 I went to get MY power pole after deciding to let the lease go... only to find that IT was stolen after the power co disconnected it for me.

I had a camper within eye sight and less than 50 yards off of the road the entire time. Never as much as touched anything. Either I'm lucky, or it gets exaggerated.

CR 1, while still a pretty rough area down around Lower Peachtree as far as poaching goes, is a good ways from Kimbrough and Anne Mannie. 10 miles closer to Thomasville, at a minimum from where CR1 hits Hwy 5. That Red Creek area NE of Kimbrough is bad. Real bad. Even the good people that live in that area, and there are quite a few really nice black families that live up that way, are scared to death of the thugs and end up being victims too, on a fairly regular basis.

I look after land all in those areas. Some of the properties already mentioned. A little strategery with an entry and exit plan go a long way.

Dumb question, but if this area is this bad why or better yet how has something not been done about it.

Stay the hell away from there. That's the area where Shane Manley was murdered and also the bunch that murdered my son. With all the night hunting and trespassing there's not a deer down there worth the risk.

Because the sheriff department is in on it.

That's not far from where the two thugs shot a white kid off his motorcycle last year killing him just for s&%ts and giggles. Timber company guys don't go there alone and unarmed.

Good lord--I've been hunting there for 20 years and never had an issue. You will be fine. Deer population is excellent, and lots of turkeys too!

Only major problem we've had is pigs and coyotes, both of which are in abundance. I found myself smack in the middle of a large sounder a few years ago on the ground, and shot two pigs from 10-15 feet with my rifle from a hip shot, and then watched with an empty rifle as the largest pig I've ever seen attacked one of the shot pigs about 20 feet away from me and tore it to pieces. I carry a .357 with me now at all times just for that occasion. smile

Welcome to Wilcox County and good hunting!

Just left a 459 acre lease off of Willie Powell Rd, had one guy arrested for trespassing, blind stolen, camera stolen, and countless other encounters.

Used to hunt around Pineapple, is that area still safe? Never had a problem down there but that was 20 plus years ago.

Back in the 80’s my dad logged a lot of timber in Wilcox county. I don’t recall things being bad back then down there. Hate to hear it’s that bad now. And if the SO is on the take, then it’s never gonna get any better. Sad.

It's not the whole county... it's just one tribe in a 10x10 mile area thats bad.

That would make more sense to me based on my experiences there.
