I saw that too earlier today. I’m guessing that since a lot of people had more down time with the “working from home” helped in catching the quota earlier than that estimated. Plus the weather and seas.

Bullchit is what it is. I take my kids and their cousins snapper fishing every July 4th, and have for the last 15 years. Wont be happening this year, but there will be a hundred charter boats out there.

We need a tag system. Equally allocate "our share" of red snapper, and let us catch them when we want to. In safe seas, and not in a 30 days window with another 1,000 boats. Give every body X number of tags. I used to love bottom fishing in the fall.

Regular Joe private angler who managed to finally get himself a nice little 21-22 foot center console, will not be able to keep the 3 main fish caught on near shore wrecks and rocks he can get to in July. No red snapper, no triggerfish, no amberjack. Maybe he can catch and release 100 fish or more that cant be kept just to get enough black snapper and b-liners to feed his family. Not to mention the fish that will die anyway after being released.

The system is wrongly stacked to the fishing group who lines the pockets the most. That will never change in our political system.

No liars contest, no fish box this year, don't have to worry about a captain's meeting this year, no awards ceremony (and some other things I forgot lol) Don't know how the turnout will be, but it won't be for lack of people with boats 🤣

What kills me is that fisherman from florida and mississippi can still come over and catch snapper from alabama waters as long as its over 9 miles from shore. Makes no sense. MS season is supposed to run until sometime in September.

Maybe because the Alabama charters lined some pockets?
