Just cancelled everything for Glacier NP. The Blackfoot Reservation on the east side just shut everything down on the east side. It looks like we wouldn't be able to see Many Glacier Hotel and on 15 miles of Going to the Sun Road is open.
We're going to spend the time we would've used in Glacier for Yellowstone and the Black Hills

This is absolutely the worst time of year to visit Yellowstone, tetons or Glacier. There's a million people there right now. Traffic jams last for hours. No way I would even consider going in the summer, not even if it was free.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

like i stated we are leaving on September 11 headed to yellowstone. we are going to camp iat madison campground. staying 3 nights there. before heading into park we are staying in cody for 2 nights. after that i dont know what the plans are. we went to little bighorn battle feild a few years ago. i dint enjoy it. why? after we went thru the museum and started walking up the hill, i started getting a feeling of dread.it dint seem right to be there. the feeling didnt go away until we were about 5 miles away head home. this will be the 5th time we have been to yellowstone. as far as glacier, we enjoyed it but the road was closed at the top. getting ready for winter it was the end of september though. if you want to see the amount of snow they get there and how they get the road open go to glacier web site. they have pictures of the removal.

Traffic in Yellowstone wasnt bad when we were there last week. The virus has a lot of people staying put plus most of the campgrounds are closed. I could tell a difference though from the beginning of the week to the end of it but still wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I expected.

hootn,
What do you think the feeling was that came over you? I dont know. dread, anxious, or a bad feeling. Felt wrong for me being there. I've had that feeling one other time. On the east side of double oak mountain is a couple of old rock foundations that was supposed to have had a bunch of Indians were killed in cause they wasnt going to be forced toleave the area on what became the trail of tears. Was fine until I walking into the foundation, got the same feeling then. At least 30 years apart or longer.

I saw your post a while back but didn't comment. In the mid-70's, I lived in great falls montana & loved it there. Some on here may have a different opinion & I have been to all of the n-parks you've mentioned-but Glacier np is the closest thing to heaven on earth that you'll see on this side of it. A lot of the pictures you'll see on maps or post cards will be of st.marys lake in gnp. A truly beautiful place. Go to gnp- I promise you won't regret it. If I remember correctly, there is an attraction between great falls & helena called the gates of the mountains. It's a river boat trip that goes down stream & as you approach some rocky cliffs on both sides,it seems as if the mountains are opening up to you as you get closer(hence the name). Definitely worth the time if you can fit it in. It may be just south of helena, but I can't remember for sure-been too many years ago. Hope you & your family enjoy your time up there. I could tell you of a lot of things to see up there, just takes too long to type it out.If still in season there around glacier, be sure to pick up a small crate of flat head lake cherries.

I've heard that yellowstone is relatively vacant compared to most summers. Great time to go.

Got back about 7pm last night.
Didn't got to glacier, over half of it was closed when we left.
Everything else was awesome.
Crowds in Yellowstone were nowhere near what I thought they'd be...also almost no foreigners.
The Tetons were impressive. If I never go back to Jackson, WY, it won't bother me. Cody, WY is awesome. I'd move there in a heartbeat.
If you get the chance, drive the Beartooth Highway. Absolutely gorgeous.
If you have even the tiniest of patriotic bones in your body, see the lighting ceremony for Mt. Rushmore
