I have a 50 mercury on a 1756 welded modified V. Not hard to steer at all. I would make sure it has a seat sir.

Now, you go on much of a run and the torque will wear on your arm. Least they did me, and it was a 25hp...maybe the setup was wrong?

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

There's a little tab on the foot that you can adjust left or right to help eliminate steering torque. Well, I don't know if all motors have it but my little 4 stroke Merc does. I have also seen a guy heat and twist the skeg just a little too accomplish the same thing. I wouldn't go that route though unless I had no other options. There are a few bonafide boat guys on here that will probably have a real answer for you.

Should be plenty easy to steer. I’ve driven a few 20’+ boats with 200-300 hp tiller handle engines on them. Remember that you don’t have to run it WOT. You can set the throttle tension where it will comfortably hold at 3/4 throttle. The higher the RPMs, the higher the torque will be. You can also set the tension on the swivel bracket to keep the engine from putting so much torque on the handle. DO NOT bend the skeg on the gearcase, you will break it and then the torque will be even higher.
