I’ve got to secure some crown molding to a 2x4 stud. I’ve got a little air nailer for shooting trim nails but have no idea how many pounds of pressure to send to the nailer. The trim is 1/4” thick and the nails are 1/2”.
Can’t find the user book on the nailer. I’d prefer to not risk a molding split with over-pressure And I’m not sure if I’m steady enough with a punch to finish driving an under pressured shot. Any suggestions on a pressure setting? I’m re-attaching a piece that came loose and don’t have any more matching molding. Otherwise I would just dial it in on a test piece.

Find something to use as a test piece, even if you have to mill down some lumber, or you're not going to be happy when you shoot that first nail.

If you've got 1/4" thick material, and are using a 1/2" nail it's not going to be real secure.

If your compressor is set to 100 it'll be fine. I agree that the 1/2' brads will be short. a 3/4 or 1" will hold it better

If you have sheetrock on top of th estuds use Inch and a quarter brads and around 100 psi. I would use 18 gauge but put up plenty with 15 or 16 gauge nails

1.5 inch brads and 100 psi all day. Because you can by 5000 braids for a few buck more than 1000. 1.5" brads will work in almost any application.
