I just decided to take a picture of one and have caught them all my life. This one was full of eggs and they also have a firm white flesh.

I have never caught any in South AL, but the description says they are there: https://www.outdooralabama.com/bream/shadow-bass I've never seen one colored like that, but there are pictures on the internet that do look similar. Some folks called the fish that I posted last summer a Rock bass, but they are not found south of the TN river. Cool fish! He is bigger than any I have caught in Coosa Co. The tanic waters there give them a dirty yellowish coloring though. Some folks around here call them Goggle Eyes for obvious reasons. Biggest I've ever caught or seen caught was about 1.5 lbs maybe and that was rare.
