PCP caught a fish that we discussed last year. I caught this in central Baldwin county today and have caught them all my life. What do you call it?

JBL, that was the general consensus last year. Some folks swore up and down that we don't have them down here. I just decided to take a picture of one and have caught them all my life. This one was full of eggs and they also have a firm white flesh.

That's cool you've been able to catch them all you're life. You must have some good water quality where you're fishing.

Shadow bass is what someone from the state called my fish. I have never caught any in South AL, but the description says they are there:

https://www.outdooralabama.com/bream/shadow-bass

I've never seen one colored like that, but there are pictures on the internet that do look similar.

Some folks called the fish that I posted last summer a Rock bass, but they are not found south of the TN river. Cool fish! He is bigger than any I have caught in Coosa Co.

Here is the thread from last summer if anyone is interested:

We caught those when wading creeks when I was a kid. We called them Goggle eyes, the ones that we caught were about the size of the ones in your pictures. We caught them in southern Marion County.

I've always called em goggle eyes as well. Caught a bunch when I was younger. Would hit a bass lure with no prejudice.

That fish is not long like a bass. Could it be a Warmouth subspecies?

Warmouth Perch is what they were known as in the Okefenokee basin of South Georgia. The tanic waters there give them a dirty yellowish coloring though. Some folks around here call them Goggle Eyes for obvious reasons. It’s in the Sunfish Family and the world record is around 2.7 lbs. It resembles a cross between a largemouth and a crappie.

Cool to know, always wondered what they actually were. Biggest I've ever caught or seen caught was about 1.5 lbs maybe and that was rare.

I call that a Warmouth, they are pretty common in the Pea and Conecuh. They hit a jig like a pissed off crappie.
