I am in the market for a "new to me" tractor. I am waiting a 50-70 hp, 4wd, and bucket. What are your thoughts on all the new tractor deals( JD, Kubota, Mahindra)versus a used tractor and where is the best place to find used deals? TIA.

I would look for a low hour pre-DEF tractor. Be prepared for sticker shock. They are a hot item and the price reflects it. Be patient and look around. There are some deals to be found.

I know where a JD 5065 is with low hours. If you want the contact info shoot me a pm and I’ll get it to you. Somebody ran it by me the other day. It’s a good deal for the tractor but not sure if any attachments are included.

Just make sure it’s not the E series.

Despite of what hayman may say, a Mahindra is a very nice machine, and the price chits on kabota and JD. also, a used yanmar is nice. Same engine as the ones in a JD.

Good suggestion , Boykin Tractor in Rainsville has a good looking used one out front now. A 5205 4X4 with loader would be a good one too, again if you can find one. A pre electronics and DEF JD in that HP range fetch a premium price these days. But are good tractors.

Def go with pre-def ones. I've had a mahindra and it was a good tractor. Operated JD and the new hollands. Like them all

Very few if any tractors under 100hp use diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). What these guys mean is finding a tractor that’s not EPA Tier IV which means the tractors do a regeneration cycle on the engine. It can be annoying and some folks don’t like it. I think it varies by brand but tractors made after about 2009-2012 have the “regeneration cycle” that folks don’t like.

I’ve never owned a tier IV tractor so I can’t comment on issues with it.

Mahindra owner here. Bought one new in 2018 and have 262 hours as of the end of today. It’s a work horse, strong as an ox, all steel (unlike every other manufacturer who’s gone to plastic fenders, hoods, etc). They weigh more, lift more and pull more in the same HP class as JD and Kubota. Plus the newly engineered engines don’t require DEF or a regen. They meet standards without it.

If you want one that needs some work talk to LInk Jones and I bet he'll make you a deal for The Beast (his old John Deere). He upgraded to a sure enough beast.

There's a Massey in Ga. for sale with attachments. I don't know if it's a deal or not, but here's the link.

Thank all of you for your input. So the new Mahindras do not have DEF? Interesting as to how they can do it but not JD and KB? Makes me lean to a Mahindra. Thoughts?
