is that all it cant be used on? Im interested in planting watermelon and cantaloupe.

It’s not labeled for cucurbits. Pendumethylin(Prowl) is labeled for them and that’s what I use on the watermelon and cantaloupe. It’s not recommended for cucumber so I don’t use it on that. I also use prowl on the conventional sweet corn.

I use a balanced fertilizer preplant. Trip 13,16,or 19 whichever the co-op has. Then I use a soluable 20-20-20 thru the injector system.

No good for that. Sonalan or curbit for watermelons and canteloupes. They need a rain within about 3days to activate. I use sonalan. It does a really good job if you get the rain on it. Dramatically decreases the grass and weeds

Rmart30, I dont know where you are but I have some prowl and im getting another jug of sonalan if you need a little. Both are pretty expensive. Ive never used the prowl for watermelons or canteloupes but im sure if marshmud says its ok it probably is. You can google the lables. Watermelons and canteloupes are not on the sonalan lable but ice been using it for several years.

Just hollar if you want it. Probably wouldnt take a half a cup to do it. I know I hate to buy 2 1/2gallons of something when I just need a few ounces.

Curbit and Sonalan have the same active ingredient, Sonalan is the row crop label. Ive never heard of Prowl being used as a pre-emerge in melons, maybe in the row middles only. Reflex and Sandea are a pretty good combo for watermelons too but a little weak on grass, Strategy is a combo of command and cubit and is ok but weak on broadleaves.

Its got some Bermuda in it but its got a lot of other types of grass as well. I have a 3/4 acer right of way going thru the back yard so its just a lot of green growing.

Is there a way to add some dolomite lime after planting? I've got weed barrier down so not sure I can mix it into the soil. Also with the barrier down how do you add fertilizer? Was thinking of using liquid if I can't use the pellets which stinks because I've got a ton of fert laying around.

You've probably got a huge seed bank of crabgrass seed in the soil. Every time you til it, you're bringing new seeds closer to the surface so they can germinate. You aren't killing bermuda grass with glyphosate, unless you're spraying it in the fall when they rhizomes are storing nutrients. When you till bermuda that's not dead, you're just spreading it. Hit it this fall with a strong dose of glyphosate. If it's dry like normal, water the area well for a couple of weeks to get the bermuda actively growing before spraying.

Solid advice here. Wasn’t thinking if Bermuda grass. Also if you have sedges, gly will not kill some of them.

The sandea is extra expensive. Ive got some of it too. It works good on nutgrass which is what I bought it for. I have pre emerged with it and post merged. It stunted my little watermelon plants when I got a little on them.

Yea it ain’t cheap and will knock em back a little post-emerge but it’s great on nutsedge and red root pigweed. I have sprayed over the top of watermelons Pre-bloom and it’ll delay maturity some.

I back off on the nitrogen after the plants start to put on blooms and fruits. Phosphorous helps with fruit set.

I'm currently using an organic fertilizer that appears to be made for pot growers (found it on sale for 75% off at a local clearance store.)

Those potheads apparently have things figured out. My plants look much better than usual at this time of year.

Pro Tip: Don't use much nitrogen on tomatoes. It makes the core larger, extremely large. I give them some until I see the first blooms, then I quit. Heavy on P and K all season.

I used trip 13 when I planted. Everything is popping up. Would you go ahead and side dresser? I’m afraid the amount of rain we had the other night leached out most of the fert.
