My grandfather had one that I really liked but it met the same fate as straycat's.

Good luck. I've got the fever for one as well. Friend down in Florida is a collector of them. Think he has 17 including 2 lever action and 3 bolt action versions.

I have one. It's the first gun I ever bought myself, so it isn't going anywhere. Good luck with your search.

My Dad and a buddy were diving in Greer's Ferry Lake in Arkansas back in '72. In about 80' of water, they recovered a bunch of camping gear that had been lost several years earlier, including a Nylon 66. Insurance had settled with the owners, so they were able to keep what they salvaged. Bill cleaned that rifle up, and still had it and regularly used it the last time I saw him, back in the late '80's.

I'm always amazed at the high prices people at gun shows put on these guns.

I've always heard you never want to take one apart for cleaning because you will never get it back together. Never owned one so I have no clue if true.

They are no harder to work on than anything else. There are just a few parts that are held in by the receiver cover itself. You must know what and where they came from to put it back together. Just get a good break down diagram or youtube it. I had bought a used one once and had a few parts missing that the receiver held in place, one was the exactor and one of the receiver bolt plates.

this^^^^^^^^^ is somewhere between untrue and a damn lie grin My brother took his apart and he and dad spent a week trying to put it back together before finally taking it to a good gunsmith.

Sorry you feel this way. I never had a problem with mine it was work and had to pay attention to what your doing. It did have parts missing inside that I ordered from Numrich. I did have a youtube video of disassembly/reassembly i watched as I took it down.

I wish I could find one as well. I grew up shooting my dads Nylon 66 that’s was black and silver. That was the gun I was going to keep forever. Well he got hard up for money one day in the late 1990’s and sold it along with his Winchester Winlite shotgun that was another forever gun. I don’t know who bought them so I was never able to try and buy them back.
I think about those guns often.

My dad gave me his Nylon 66 ( brown version). There was pawn shop in Lamar Co - had the green version on display, but he would not sell it. Gave up on trying to have the trio( brown/black/green). Most folks won't give 'em up. Me either. Great gun- hope you can find one.
