I have always wondered if in the North Alabama area there were “Jon Boat” type fishing tournaments? Motors less than 25 hp? I have had much larger boats and obviously boats that are much more expensive, but I have always thought it would be cool to have a tournament of nothing but smaller boats. Before some say it, I realize someone could always put their boat in a large scale tournament but I just wanted to know if there is smaller scale tournaments?

Also, I put in the general forum as I know more people would see than in the fishing forum alone. Thank you for any insight!

Several years ago there were some kids on the Warrior that absolutely were wearing folks out at the tournaments in a boat about like that...until folks caught on that “several” groups of kids were helping with their fish. The kids were splitting the winnings, but thankfully nobody got hurt when it was discovered what was going on.

Cullman has a few lakes that have them. Catoma is a 25hp or less lake and the others are not regulated, however most of the boats are jon boats.

Catoma has a couple of "Clubs" that have tournaments. I know one is on Tue 6-10. I think the Monday is a club deal but not sure. It is 6-10 as well. Friday night is an open I think and I think 6-12. They also run a Sat morning that I think is open. I am not certain they have tournaments on the other lakes but most likely do. They were open and were Fri and Sat nights.Duck river is a 25 or less and will have tournaments start up as soon as it is legal to keep bass. If interested I can put you in touch with folks who can give better details.

Id enter if they had some in g ville or wheeler. I never heard of any on these tva waters. Im not tryin to get ran over by a 70k bass boat in my $2k boat. With the electronics these days, its not much of a fair competition to me anyhow competing with those outfits.

Ryano, thanks for the info I did some online searching last night after you mentioned the lake and you are dead-on with the times and days. Jordan Lee (pro) had some good info as that’s where he spent many nights fishing before going pro and mentions he even still hits it up occasionally in a article I read.

JaketheSnake, we get a few more boats we can get one going!

You are correct, I also have a 5 h.p. Yamaha that I could put on.

I was just implying small motors tournaments as a whole.

Dang newbie, this belongs in fishing section. This is general, the place we all come to garner words of wisdom from the king of all fire pits. Ruthead. I can't help but wonder what words of wisdom he has today. Maybe something life changing like tree frogs on his porch. Lawd only knows.

Turmtwo, have you considered joining a local bass club or even starting one and limiting member to 50Hp or less ? I'm sure there would be a lot of fellas interested. you might contact one of the Federations for, help guidance or whatever. I'm surprised that there isn't an organization already

If I can help send me a pm.

Perch,

Technically not a newbie as I was on here many years before 2012 and forgot my handle haha! Probably been a member since 2007 at least. I honestly don’t usually have the time as I am a teacher and baseball coach, but with everything going on I currently just chasing my kids around the house. Thought I would see what is out there and possibly jump in a tournament or two. Like I said, just put it in this forum cause I was needing quick answers and knew I probably would get more input in the General forum, my apologies. Thanks for offering help, I appreciate it!

They did and of course the pressure went way up. It was already over pressured in my opinion.

They do this with saltwater tournaments but never heard of it being done with freshwater.

I've heard of kayak tournaments. If I was inclined to fish a tournament, I would not hesitate to do so out of my 1984 Fisher Marine aluminum boat.

I'm just wondering how they're gonna get away with having bass tourneys this weekend 🤔
