Typically, how is the fishing in early May? Mainly referring to bass, and crappie. What stage are the fish in? Looking at taking a little trip up for 4 or 5 days.

Turkeys be damned.

If the G don’t work out, Wedowee-Martin is a little closer. It’s on fire at that time.

Very good. Crappie fishing is excellent at that time. Post spawn, fish still relatively shallow

You’ll be able to catch plenty at Guntersville in May.

Bass will be in post spawn. Spinnerbaits, plastics and top waters will all be good. Fish will be shallow in the grass.

Back when I used to fish early May was probably my favorite time. Get a good overcast day with a little ripple on the water and you can catch em on spooks and buzzbaits all day long.

2 of the best fishing days that I've had were early May, Overcast with a ripple. One spot me and Travis fished every early May would really produce for us on days like this. One day I bet we caught 25lbs by 8am. Swimbaits and my bbz-1 spro rat flat messed them up.

Stage will really be dependent on weather in the next couple months but bites for both species should be pretty good. Post spawn just not sure how late in post spawn. We have caught crappie some years in early may in 4'-6' water and other years in 20' water. Shellcracker/bluegill bite may be pretty hot at that time.

That’s right! They all drowned in the great flood of 2020!! Nothing to see here folks, keep it moving. Far better lakes to fish on than Lake Martin.
