I've only hunted AL public the last couple of years, but I am pretty sure I would have killed 2 more birds with a fan. How many of you guys fan on public? I'm not complaining cause I've killed on 1/3 of my hunts but I'm wanting to increase my odds. Is it safe enough?

I haven't seen another hunter yet, but I have seen some tracks.

Sure go for it ! Another good tip when on public land , if you see something moving in the bushes that you think is a turkey go ahead and fire off a couple shots at it . Never know maybe it is a turkey and the anticipation while walking up to what ever you just shot is half the fun !!!

If you hunt Alabama public land and kill a turkey every third trip you don’t need a fan.

Anyone that would fire on an unknown target needs to have their license removed from them promptly and permanently

I'm not gonna do it. Lot of people on public my way.

No doubt. That’s better than most on private. Even really good private.

They would probably rule cause of death “suicide “ if you did it on Skyline.

I've tried using a fan in Alabama a few times and it didn't work. They looked in my direction but just kept feeding.

Before you do that, double or triple your life insurance and make sure your health insurance is very good. I won't run a fan on private land that only I turkey hunt. The outlaw factor is WAY too high in Alabama.

I don't carry a fan personally on public or private. I did run into a guy on public a few years ago who was carrying one and asked if he had any success using the fan. He said that both times he pulled it out and showed it to a gobbler the bird immediately went the opposite way. Take that for what its worth.

Only thing I use a fold up fan for is for adding realism to a fly down cackle or scratching in leaves sometimes...be dumb to do on public land

OK, I thought it may be stupid, but I like the idea of getting more birds. I really don't consider 3 kills in 9 mornings to be good. I'll probably go back cause I've worked birds on other days, but I think decoys or fans would have closed the deal. I won't use decoys on public but was hoping for a different reaction to fans.

My location will probably go downhill cause last year I noticed the area adjacent had been leased. Birds were not working nearly as well. It is amazing how quickly a couple guys can screw a place up. 2 for 4 changed quickly to 3/9.

Sounds like you don’t need a fan then

x2 Did I tell you about this trick? I've got a fan off of a mojo scoot n shoot that folds up nice and small and makes the best flydown sound I've ever heard.

Oh, and thanks everyone. My wife will be disappointed not to get the big payout though.

Those TSS shell stories make it seem like there would be less wounding and more painful death. Couple more threads like this and I'll even use orange packing a bird out (probably.wearing a brand new pair of snake boots).

What?!? I know a bunch of really good turkey hunters who would love to be able to average a bird every three hunts.
